Looking to move to Blackpool after living in Manchester for over 10 years, but still need to commute for work

Im looking round Stanley Park area, can anyone advise what traffic is like getting in / out Preston New Road / M55 at rush hour please?

Would it be a case of leave early to beat the rush, or is it not too bad?

Thanks in advance!

Every where is bad at rush hour in this country but Preston New road is always pretty easy to get away from but it depends what time you have to be at work for?
9a.m is far more a nightmare in Manchester than anything in Blackpool.

Traffic in Blackpool is no way near as bad as some places like preston for instance at rush hour trying to get out of that place is horrific it’s like everyone is trying to leave for some reason.

Yeah Manchester is a nightmare on the ring road.

I reckon on a clear day M55 to M6 Warrington turn off, is about an hour.

Just thinking about time added on to the beginning / end of the journey.

Probably would be leaving Blackpool around 7:00 / 7:30

If they live in Manchester and work in Manchester, they probably don't drive in Manchester rush hour.
Of course they do or the roads wouldn't be so rammed.
Biggest problem we have in this country is school and work near enough start at the same time something needs changing.

If you are coming down the M61 and then down the East Lancs Rd traffic is really busy. What is quite common is driving to Horwich Wanderers ground and getting the train in from there.

I spent many years commuting to Manchester and Warrington, and I'd leave Blackpool at 7 at the latest.
Especially in the winter months when everyone is back at work or school. The earlier journey is a lot less stressful.

Yep, a clear run to Warrington would be around an hour, but clear runs are rare after the Summer hols.
If you're going to Manchester, you often queue from J5/4 of the M61, so Insiders suggestion seems reasonable.

Here, Whitegate Drive is very busy (same with East Park Drive) but if you're leaving here at 7 it wouldn't be an issue. Good luck 👍

I did it for 18 months 20 years ago .

Eventually I just moved to Manchester

I could never guarantee what time I’d get in for unless I set off at 6.30

Might have changed now with more folk working from home etc

Don't know about that. But Manchester railway stations are absolutely packed in the morning and tea time. Cannot breathe the trains are so full.

Ive done it recently, the earlier the better to miss the traffic. Bad coming home I found at anytime. Would stay in Manchester or find a new job nearer to Blackpool.

Preston New Road is fine, traffic can back up from lights towards the park, the only other chokey bit around there is Clifton Road at the lights for fat man's corner because the pavement is three miles wide.

Consider driving to the Reebok and getting train from there.

I did Herons Reach to Manchester centre for two years and it was horrendous.

I did this the other way- had to leave at 6:30 and had to be on the road back by about 4:15, to pick work back up at home, to have any chance of making it in an hour. Had to move in the end.

I regularly do this commute.
The Blackpool bit is easy but unless you are past j5/4 on the m61 before 06:45 expect to queue. Going the a580 way at the top of the m61 is a better option as it's the m61 onto the m60 which is the bottle neck.
If you're going east down the m60(m62) that's not too bad either, in general.
Coming back you need to be away for 3:30 to avoid heavier traffic but it's never too bad.

The rush is real. Not for me this one. Think you're mad/dangerously optimistic 😅🤪
