O/T Car brake down cover

I know you said forgot those, but this is what they can do. I broke down at Arrad Foot, which is about 3 miles east of Ulverston. One of the above came out, looked at it and said it needed a new part. Let me make a phone call he said.......Came back saying there was a garage in Kendal that had the part and they'd get me on the way in no time. Off we headed, he left me and 2 hours later I asked the reception guy how long would it be. Part isn't here yet he said and it's coming from Barrow (near Ulverston). i said nothing but later asked if they do a lot of breakdown stuff brought in- yeah was the reply they all bring them in here.

I wonder why?

I had to use Green Flag when my car was damaged in an accident on Xmas day. Around here it seems that they use Macadam who have a depot behind ASDA at Marton and responded quickly. I had AA many years ago and hope they must have improved because they were poor then.

I can't praise enough the support and service we got from AA's European breakdown cover when my car gave up half way between Euro Disney and Calais on a Sunday afternoon.

They organised a hotel for us, spoke to the recovery guy (there is a mandatory recovery service on French motorways that you have to use) and got him to drop us and the car off at the hotel where our room and evening meal had already been organised.

The car was collected the next morning, a taxi took us to the nearest city (about 30 miles away) and a hire car was waiting for us to get to Calais, where a new ferry crossing had been arranged. Once we got to Dover there was a UK hire car waiting for us to drive back home.

My car was repaired at the manufacturer's main dealer (invoiced at €430) without me having to pay a penny.

Once the repair was complete (about 3 days after we arrived home), a hire car was sorted to get me to Manchester Airport, where I boarded a flight to Paris, and then a taxi to take me 100 miles to the dealership to collect my car. I could then drive it to Calais to meet the ferry that had been arranged for me.

A week after arriving back, a reimbursement form arrived for me to claim all of the sundry expenses we incurred including fuel and toll payments for both journeys home from France.

The ONLY thing I ended up having to pay for myself was the initial recovery from the motorway.

I reckon it must have cost in excess of £2,000 all in, and my premium for the trip had been about £50. I wouldn't take my car abroad without it.

My car expired last weekend and green flag were pretty good. I normally just end up with whoever my insurance offers as an extra.
