O/T fracking to start soon say Cuadrilla

I’m not necessarily against it, and not really sure the minor earthquakes should really be a good enough reason to stop it, but it should be designated a national asset for use only in the UK and as a means to support the move towards a complete reliance on green energy. It should also be heavily regulated with stipulation that it massively benefits the local communities.

Personally would much sooner see mass onshore windfarms though.

Interesting article on Russian disinformation and the campaign against fracking: https://thecritic.co.uk/issues/december-2019/the-plot-against-fracking/

The Russians also lobbied behind the scenes against shale gas, worried about losing their grip on the world’s gas supplies. Unlike most conspiracy theories about Russian meddling in Western politics, this one is out there in plain sight. The head of Nato, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said the Russians, as part of a sophisticated disinformation operation, “engaged actively with so-called non-governmental organisations — environmental organisations working against shale gas — to maintain Europe’s dependence on imported Russian gas”.

No Russian 'disinformation' was ** necessary, the people of the Fylde could feel the reality of fracking for themselves.

We've already wasted more than a decade on this pipe dream.... A decade during which the Government should have been investing in Nuclear and Green Technologies. Now we're going to waste more precious time on it....

The RICS already mention on surveys that the Fylde is a potential fracking zone and the risks involved.no doubt it will affect house prices.

Wow Russians must have a lot of power if they are able to create very localised earthquakes thousands of miles away whenever they want. I guess they also somehow sucked up all the shale gas we now realise we don't actually have because we now know how unsuitable the UK is for fracking.

Thought the Government would allow fracking , providing the local community agrees.
So it seems it can’t go ahead on Preston New Road .

The Age of digging in to the ground for our energy should be at an end, not just starting up. There is no need to do it if the govt would just invest properly in to green energy - which as I've stated on another thread can and would actually be a catalyst for economic growth.

That's an absurd thing to say... Of course it's relevant....

It may not bother you personally, but for most people their home is their largest asset... Why would anyone want to see a huge drop in their net worth, borrowing capacity, personal equity etc...
Not really, I’m not moving so I don’t care 😉 Quite happy with the 25% reduction on my energy bill though 😀👍🏼

Too many companies fleecing us for renewable energy though. Just had a quote at work for £16k without the battery pack to potentially save me £200 a month with solar power 🙄

If you don't care about your personal wealth reducing then fair play.... Personally I prefer my assets to go up in value. Though whether you sell your house or not, you are still losing actual cash.

Here's a bit of basic maths to help you to put this into context...

Let's assume a house value of £500,000

With an annual energy bill of £5,000

So the house value drops by 30% (£150,000) and in return you get the princely sum of £1250 off your energy bill

Of course you are not bothered.... "Because you don't intend to move"

Yet you could currently release that 30% equity £ 150,000 that you have in your property (which could be invested into a business or simply spunked up the wall on cars, designer clothes, Jewellery and you'd still have plenty left to cover the tiny 25% discount on your energy bills) and you would be no worse off than you would be as a result of Fracking.

Potentially ha ha they all say that & potentially the payback time will be many years assuming the sun shines brightly, but by this time if it’s like everything else you buy these days, you’ll have to replace parts or all of it. Some companies will get rich from it, as usual. Now if as someone else mentioned, new builds should be insulated to a much higher degree & incorporate solar panels & heat pump technology. To me they don’t seem to have done this.

The Lancs Live report states that the Fracking companies are "Considering" a 25% cut in bills. This does not mean it will happen.

The days of cheap energy is over, and people are going to have to get used to it. All the low hanging fruit of fossil fuels are in decline.

A better way to cut household energy bills would be to invest more in household insulation.

Why should I get used to it? It’s this government that has installed the sanctions causing this. It’s this government that printed billions of pounds out of thin air that’s causing this.

Got enough money to do all that as well 👍🏼

Bloody Russians

You've got enough money to throw £150K down the bog, yet you haven't "got enough money" to spend £16K on solar?

I'm not sure it's quite sinking in mate... You are trading £150K of your own Cash and you are getting £1250 back in return...

Jeez give me the £150K if you don't need it... I'll fit you a system where you'll never pay a bean for your energy ever again and still have over a hundred grand in my sky rocket.

It wont go into British households but will be sold off to the highest bidder in Europe. Making millions of profit for the fracking companies and leaving misery and stress for all those affected by the fracking. Its a big NO from me.👎
Spot on. All that guff about helping the local economy is hilarious. And some people believe it.🤨
