A new one to add to my list of ailments 🥴

Went to the opticians yesterday to see (<--- no pun intended) why my glasses have given up on me after only 9 months.
Apparently, in that time, I have the early onset of cataracts and i was informed the speed of the worsening was different for everyone.

Have any of you other miserable old buggers been there and done it and how long was the time before surgery was required?

I had cataract surgery in August and November last year at CHEC, near Amy Johnson Way. Only waited about four weeks after being referred by the optician. Must admit to being a bit nervous about the procedure, but everything was fine.

Did it get to the stage you couldn't drive before being referred?

I've had both mine done a few years ago and my wife has just had hers done. Specsavers referred us to Spa Medica in Birmingham ( I think their Head Office is in Bolton) About 4-6 weeks waiting. No problem

My wife had had slight cataracts for some years, then in a space of about 6 months, couldn't see kerbs when walking, the till at work, etc. Got referred to a private hospital as the NHS waiting list is about 18 months in our area. All done and dusted in about 8 weeks, eyesight is now superb but has to be careful with bright lights and in the dark. Cost us a lot, but losing her job and being unable to walk the dogs was unthinkable.

A good percentage of cataract surgery now is for people between 35-45. They’re putting it down to screen use and sun beds.

If you can afford it go private as you’ll be in in no time at all. The NHS is a very long waiting list.

Edit : Spa Medica is a private company who the NHS use so I think it depends on your local Trust

CHEC have clinics over the country and they will get it done within 4 weeks. No need to pay as its all nhs referrals. U usually get refered from the optician.

I had both my lenses replaced a couple of years ago, I opted for the more expensive triple and now have 20/20 vision.

I do suffer from dry eye syndrome occasionally since but well worth it imo.
