Due to have my right knee replaced on May 9th just wondering if any
Avftters have had a knee op and how it went, any tips on recovery, do's and don'ts etc. Will be at the Derby match tomorrow and hope to be moving well for the new season! [ ps good to see you and family Dave at t'Rovers !].

Had 3 knee ops , various procedures and a very unpleasant arthrogram which involved some very big needles.

Basically try not to kneel and walking turned out to be the best thing for it long term. I was told I might need a wheelchair, now I manage to walk 5 miles a day.

Yes get a skateboard ,ignore his other leg 😉 Can I ask how long you have had to wait.?
Ha ha...knee been going downhill [ not on a skateboard ! ] for about 4 years. Got listed for surgery in Sept. 2021.Had my hip done a year ago so I'm hoping I'll be able to walk properly soon instead of like a 90 year old !

If you’re having it round here, then I hope you’re in the Spire.

Had my right knee done 7 years ago the surgeon at the time x rayed the left and said the left knee needs doing too. I said I would leave it for now and I would come back when its proper knackered.I think the time has come ,so Iam seeing the quacks next week to get the ball rolling .
I think this will be along thread . 😉

Mrs Insider was in the Highfield on Monday this week for an arthroscopy.
Mr Cohen was the man in charge and whilst she too was expecting a replacement knee diagnosis for the time being it's just a cartilage repair.
She will be hobbling to her seat tomorrow all being well.

My mate was late 60's when he had both knees replaced (not at the same time). He's played football for Chorley and had been at Wolves, but his knees were damaged due to playing lots of crown green bowling! Both operations went went and the recovery was surprisingly quick. Religiously do the physio and get those knees out in the sunshine (you're having it done at the best time of the year as you can wear shorts in the warm weather). Good luck - trust the surgeon and you'll be fine.
Remember: Worrying is like riding a rocking horse - you can do it, but it won't get you anywhere.
Enjoy the last home game and take care on the terrace steps!

I had an arthroscopy on my right knee in the the Spire about 10 years ago, the Staff Nurse came around for my pre-op and started drawing on my left knee, asked why he was marking my left knee, "because that's the knee being operated on"!! Turned there was someone with the same name, same op time but different knee😬

I had awful pain about 10 years ago in both knees. I used to run and go to the gym on a regular basis. I had a scan and was told o had osteoarthritis in both knees ( and a torn cartilage) a knee replacement lasts about 10 years so I was told and I was 55 so thought forget it. The specialist said I had good muscle around my knees so have carried on the weights. No more pain , a few aches especially after walking 10 ten miles around Derwentwater ( see photo). I ran 4K on the treadmill this morning in about 25 mins so not bad.

Sorry for boring you but what I’m trying to say is keep fit if you can

I had a full one on the right and a partial on the left.

Get it moving as soon as you can/allowed and push yourself with exercises.

Not had the op personally, but my mum has.

Can’t stress enough the need to regularly do the physio. Especially the bending & stretching (if you don’t do this early on, it can lead to permanent restricted movement).

Wear your stockings. It will be annoying, particularly if it’s hot weather. Make sure they show you how to put them on (with a bag).

My mum was given some anti blood clot jabs. Assume you will get them? If not, take aspirin if you can.

Two weeks isolation before and after for Covid. At Wrightington you’re not allowed to have the Op if you’ve had Covid within last 90 days. Assume your place will be equally vigilant. It’s more dangerous afterwards to catch Covid, so treat it like another mini lockdown.

Avoid kneeling on the new knee.

They really do last longer than 10 years, so that’s a bit of a scare story. (Unless of course you go for daily long hikes!)

If I was paying for private, I’d ask for the ‘sportsman’s knee.” Not all knees are made the same. The biggest cost with private is the time you stay in their care. Do your research - get a recommended surgeon.

Didn't realize that mate, not nice. My good lady has had 2 partials in the last couple of years during the pandemic and is much better now than before, most recent one giving her a better experience than the first.

had my left knee done at age 55 ,seems to still be ok and am playing walking football every week and also do a lot of walking ,like others have said do the physio after and hopefully should be ok ,had mine at the vic and have to say they were fantastic, good luck

Ha-ha. Good job you weren’t in for penis enlargement then.

Thats good Kev. So long as she maintains some flexibility, she will be fine. Bring on the Rams 👍

After an accident in Germany in a Scout car (I wasn't the driver) I had stitches in both knees.
I couldn't kneel down for years after, very painful
Ballaragh, hope your Op goes well.
You won't be able to lay carpets etc for years. 😟

Got a partial knee replacement just before last Xmas.
They didn’t know whether I was to get a full or partial until they opened the knee.
Stick to the physios exercise routine like glue… don’t push beyond what you can endure.
At six weeks I was doing 20mins on a static bike 3days a week and walking well albeit with clicks and grinding from the knee (quite normal apparently)
The key is to do those exercises, aim for a straight leg and a 90 degree knee bend and you’ll be cooking on gas.
I expect to get my other knee done in July 🤞
