O/T Lancs cricket - George Bell

A fair few cricket fans on here, some may have seen George Bell make a cameo appearance for Lancs 2nds in the T20 at Stanley Park when he hit 31 off 26 balls against Durham. He also got 31(off 27) for Lancs V Durham in the T20.

He is one to watch. In the current England u-19 game V Sri Lanka he scored 107 off 96, hitting 16 fours. As is ever the case, the ECB will make sure he doesn't play too many ganes for Lancs. -

Clearly more of an accumulator for the longer form of the game. Not scoring quickly enough for the short formats.

Just checked and he’s striking at 127 (28 from 22) in the second dig as well.

That is absolutely not accumulation. Average strike rate in first class games is somewhere between 50-60 his average so far this game in 130ish balls faced is approx 115…….

To give it some context, Joe Root who would absolutely be seen as an accumulator and a classical batsman, as opposed to a Power hitter like a Jason Roy, Jos Buttler or Jonny Bairstow, has an average SR in white ball cricket of about 87……..Bells SR of about 115 in a 4 day game could in no way be seen as accumulation.

Completely ludicrous to compare seasoned internationals with a 19 year old that's played a handful of 2nd team cricket.

His current SR is not good enough for short format cricket based upon those handful of games.

Ps Joe Root is more than just an accumulator. He's a very aggressive accumulator which has power hitting mixed in. The main reason he is good in the short format is that he scores but also anchors the top order.

His Lancs teammate Tom Aspinwall has taken 3 second innings wickets so far , another promising player along with Josh Boyden, a left arm quickie who is highly rated but not playing in the U19s game. The future for Lancs is looking good 👍

You call a guy with a SR of better than a run a ball an accumulator and then call me ludicrous……..brilliant

My point was, if one of the very best England has produced gets by on a paltry SR of 86/87 then someone who naturally scores at better than a run a ball will be fine.

I’d be interested to know what you think would be an acceptable SR for modern White Ball cricket?

50 over 110
20 over and T100 I'd say 130 - 140 minimum as a batsman. Probably higher in real terms.

I think your about 20 years behind.

Remember watching him bat with Sir Clive Lloyd. The original Little and Large. Great memories.
Yep. Me too. Both must have had sore necks after a long partnership. Think I saw them bat together at Blackpool circa 75 against Northants. Lloyd made 22 with 2 sweeps for 4s. Pilling lasted longer, but I remember no more than that.

I recall before one game where CL had a few balls bowling and batting with us outside the Club. The kids all looked up to Clive LLoyd and Harry Pilling looked up to the kids.

Bell can only improve his T20/H/50 by playing those formats and he will. He is head and shoulders the best cricketer in the U19 match and his strike rate is excellent for red ball cricket. I've no worries about him at all. Bit worried about Parkinson though he's having a bit of a crisis at the moment.
