Hi, Ladies, Gents and other tech savvy people

One of the USB ports on my Laptop has stopped working. I took it into Currys where I bought it as it's just out of warranty and their advice was there was no point in repairing it so they offered to trade it in for me for £300 off the price of a new one of the same model (£1200 instead of £1500 with thee trade in). Frankly they can go and do one.

So any recommendations for anywhere reliable on this beautiful Fylde Coast (preferably north of Blackpool town centre) that might be able to take a look at it and repair/replace the USB port?

They might be right. Cost of removing old one and then soldering in a new one won’t be cheap.
If you have one working usb port left on the laptop you can always buy a usb splitter? Less than a tenner on Amazon.

Can't see it costing £1200 quid though which is what it would cost me to replace the laptop with a new one of the same model at Currys after allowing for the £300 quid trade in they offered me

True, but let's say you pay a couple hundred minimum for labour etc and then couple months later something else goes wrong?

My point is laptops aren't made to last and be robust these days.

I think (as chunky mentioned) if you've still got at least one working usb port a splitter is the cheapest option.

Just by a bus a multiple port adapter that gives you as many ports as you need for just a few quid. I am assuming at least one of your ports works.

Currys are useless, wouldn't bother taking their advice. Go to a small independent and get some proper advice. I had a do with Currys a couple of years ago, anyway I found a local place that repairs and sells refurbished laptops. Brilliant cheap service and the laptops they sell are approx 400 quid and top spec as they've upgraded processors etc

What laptop would you pay 1500 quid for? Can only understand it if it’s a Mac as they’re still built to last a decent amount of time, but not for a windows based one.

thats a lot for a laptop/ typing this on an ASUS. about 300. got it last november. my wife uses the acer and there is another laptop we have.
