Not recent, by any means - we went years ago when it was still in Yugoslavia, flying to Titograd (now renamed Podgorica). It was very poor then, but stayed in a decent hotel in the south at Petrovac. Presumably now things have changed and there will be much more in terms of restaurants, bars and the like.
Nice beaches, lovely coastal walks with stunning scenery and strata jutting up at crazy angles in the rocks. Culturally it felt very different from anywhere we'd been before, with a Turkish / eastern feel. It was really hot - not warm - hot. In the evening the clouds built up over the mountains and the wind got up - not the refreshing cooling wind that we expected and hoped for, but the hot Bora.
Great day trips to Kotor and boat rides to Dubrovnik from nearby, and interesting, Budva.
And the people were interesting too: extraordinarily attractive women, I remember - tall, dark hared with striking blue eyes, many of who took to sunbathing on the rocks beneath those walks, stark naked!
