Do people with private number plates wash/vacuum their cars every Sunday morning?
Only my son in law does and he has one.

You wanna have a word with your twin brother! All I see when I see a personalised plate is "I could have given this money to charity but chose to be a selfish **** instead".
If you're happy with wasting money on looking like you have money to waste/burn then go for it I say.
lala my wife has one and its the first reg in her life that she can rememberI don’t think it’s a ego for me, though you’ve definitely made me think about my reasons.
First though we definitely all have an ego , however big or small and however we display it.
For me though I genuinely think after quite a few years of difficulties I just want to have fun times, acknowledge fun, and return to being fun.
I’ve taken life seriously serious for a good few years, because I had to.
I don’t want to for a while now, I want to be light hearted, open minded, fun, and happy, because that’s how I’m feeling.
If I’m denied a place in heaven because of that what does that say about heaven and it’s entry requirements
The thing is you are almost guaranteed to get your money back though plus some if and when you sell it. It actually has a better interest return than a savings account at the moment. All I see when I see a personalised plate is "I could have given this money to charity but chose to be a selfish **** instead".

No way Josè, I pay somebody else to do thatDo people with private number plates wash/vacuum their cars every Sunday morning?

Yer should have said he takes it to the car wash then still spends another 2 hours polishing and hoovering it.No way Josè, I pay somebody else to do that
Not necessarily, these days yes. I bought mine almost 50 years ago when you couldn’t buy just the number plate, you had to buy the whole vehicle. I paid £200 for a ford anglia with the plate, I kept the car for about 3 years and since then I have just transferred it to my new vehicle. That works out about £4 per year, I may not be the most intelligent person but I don’t think that qualifies me as having mor money than sense. The moral is don’t jump to conclusions. They do smack a bit of, ' Hmm what could I spend my spare cash on that I absolutely don't need and that serves no useful purpose whatsoever? Ahh, I know I'll get me a kudos grabbing, totally pointless ego boosting private number plate'
What other pointless things have people here squandered their hard earnt moolah on? I did recently invest in a neck hammock although, in my defence, I do have a creaky neck so if the hammock works then it moves out of the pointless purchase category
I know !!!!Just be careful if you are ever up to no good!!! You'll get clocked everywhere you go
Im going to be doing that tooSeem a bit naff to me but different strokes for different folk
Spend the cash on a weekend away walking, eating etc and bonus you can drive to wherever
Thing is they probably don’t depreciate if it’s not something hideously topical. So an investment rather than a purchase.
Mine’s a pretty standard name one that I can get for 200 plus fees
Maybe I’m selling my soul and in denial about it
I appreciate your honestyI was going to say that they are investment.
Nothing wrong with the cheaper sort that you mention and I think they are cool but I am not sure they'd be much of an investment but at the price you can't go wrong - go for it.
I will lookout for B1 TCH
I appreciate your honesty
Don’t apologise, am searching said reg plate now.No LALA, it was poor and I was too lazy to think of anything better/funnier.
Sorry.
Didn’t KOKO have one on his car ?
OY51 OUT ?
I believe he swapped it for UFO 2019Didn’t KOKO have one on his car ?
OY51 OUT ?
Jealous?Some jealous folk on here!
If you have a class car then what’s the problem
Its an investment too!
MrsTSS who is in charge of our domestic life, bought TSSJr1 one for his 18th this week.So do you have one ?
Everyone seems to these days. My sister, daughter, son-in law and many friends.
I thought they were just for w*nkers once upon a time, but now I’m considering one when I get some wheels again next month.
Am I a w*anker too now or are they wholly acceptable and the norm these days ?
Like anyone from there can afford a car, let alone a private plate for it.I bought a blue car several years ago and had to wait a few days to collect it.
I posted a pic on FB.
Almost immediately one of my mates said the number plate looks like PNE Only (it was PN 60 NLY) I immediately went on the website and bought a private plate that contains my initials. Fitted before I picked it up.
I did think about selling the plates to a kn@beer but then I would have had to meet one and talk to it, so I did the only decent thing and binned them.
Funnily enough I was thinking similar before. Botox and all that and plastic surgery etc wouldn’t be on my list at all, ever. But I’m not knocking anyone’s decision on that.Suppose its a form of car plastic surgery, getting your tits enlarged, lips looking like a trout, buttocks enlarged. If you are happy paying for something of no real use, then go for it. At least the personalised plate wont change you into a monster.
I’m going with this after thinking earlier I was heading along this train of thought.MrsTSS who is in charge of our domestic life, bought TSSJr1 one for his 18th this week.
It's a "standard" style just has his initials and year of birth.
He's really happy.
Means the other two need to have one eventually.
I'm not bothered, I always thought "why would you?" but now I'm older, I can kind of see the appeal given there are so few ways to personalise things.
We live in a pretty homogenous world and I think a personalised registration is one way to give you a bit of individualism.
I’ve had my ’666’ plate since 2000 - now on my 11th car - it’s your money, spend it on what you want, nowt to do with anyone else.
also ’hides’ the age of a motor so your model could be 5 years old but look like a brand new one. You work, earn the dough, spend it on what you want - nobody’s business really - enjoy
So do you have one ?

Wahey Kazza, good luck with it, Gazza!I’ve inadvertently proved my own point here.
I’ve made a light hearted, no matter decision into a debate on moral ethics and other people’s perceptions.
That’s the antipathy of being fun and light hearted, all this over thinking nonsense!
Plate ordered, look out for anything with Kazza hidden within
Wahey Kazza, good luck with it, Gazza!
If only he posted on this boardA fanatical BFC fan called Gary has GAZ 2553 on his BMW -- thats the cup final.
That's you "Bleach51" no more lifts in a car with one thenBack in the late eighties my ( then) boss had MMM7 and MMM8...one on his Aston Martin the other on a BMW...censorship rules forbid me for calling him what he was and probably still is but if you attend the Bridgewater Hall you might well see who he is.
Lala probably has the answer...though my better half refers to him as the Cabinet Man ( and yes there is a story behind that...and no it isn’t Crude)
...ST...I did have a BMW when I worked there but he insisted on trying it out firstThat's you "Bleach51" no more lifts in a car with one then
I could have phrased my response better I'll admit. If it's an investment thing (which I realise they do appreciate in value) then fair play. But, at the same time I believe you can own a private reg without displaying it to the world. The thing is you are almost guaranteed to get your money back though plus some if and when you sell it. It actually has a better interest return than a savings account at the moment.
If it was a 200* quid throwaway item I wouldn’t consider it, but I’m actually trying to be quite money savvy, which I’m usually not.
Btw , I’ve never had money, I don’t have money, and I give to charity as it stands, so where’s the selfishness?
I get a that, and it’s exactly how I used to think.I could have phrased my response better I'll admit. If it's an investment thing (which I realise they do appreciate in value) then fair play. But, at the same time I believe you can own a private reg without displaying it to the world.
I guess that's my issue. The display of wealth. Which I personally find off-putting.
It doesn't sound like our views are entirely dissimilar.I get a that, and it’s exactly how I used to think.
I don’t suffer from wealth and some of these registrations really cost half the price of a flash phone, which I don’t have.
There are multiple reasons why someone wants to establish their identity in this way, we’ve probably discussed most of them.
We haven’t touched on insecurity though, and that’s another reason some people maybe want to express a positive ego.
Life is, as ever, never black and white
