O/T RIP Terry Hall

A troubled genius. Such a shame. The Specials, Fun Boy Three & the Colourfield were brilliant bands.
May he Rest In Peace.

Oh dear that's sad news. Specials and More were two of the first three albums I bought.

There's often something worth keeping an eye on on the BBC red button. Earlier this year they did a night with the three that were left, just recorded a new album plus some old classics. Sounded in good shape too.

Was only listening to a couple of his tracks on the way home from football last night

Saw the Specials in Blackpool a few years back

They were superb

RIP Terry

The Specials managed to combine politics and dance tunes into something relevant and 'worthy' which was all channelled through the mournful brilliance of Terry Hall's voice. As has been said, he's gone much too young and although his life was tragically blighted by a horrendous kidnap and sexual assault, he rose above this and managed to produce some of the best of British music ever. RIP Terry, you deserve it.

Whilst not my genre of music, I was surrounded by people who loved the whole ska/2-tone scene. Over the years I have learned to appreciate his work both in the specials and Fun boy 3.

You have left a great legacy, and finally left the Rat Race, RIP Terry.

Very sad news.

I saw the Specials a couple of times and the FB3 at their first gig.

He wasn't the traditional frontman in terms of movement but you couldn't take your eyes off him.

What a band they were and what a front man he was. Huge part of my youth and yet the songs are fresh and current here in 2022.

There was always a tough but sensitive vulnerability to Terry which I think made everyone care for him.
Loved his voice , far from perfect but very real.
Saw the two tone tour at Lancaster university 1979 I think. A tour de force.
I felt very sad when I read of his death at bedtime. Seems it was a feeling shared by many people, it's been major news everywhere I've been. He would have been surprised and I dare say a bit embarrassed by the outpouring.
RIP Terry I think you can safely say you were loved!

Specials were fantastic band and massive antidote to NF skinhead shite which was around in late 70's early 80's - I have a playlist including the above ,the beat, dexys etc which transport me straight back to Blackpool boys club 1981
Listening to it now

Enjoy yourself its later than uou think
RIP

RIP.

Ghost Town spoke to the country at that time, the lyrics of the Specials were so carefully crafted. Another great of my youth gone.

Fallen into a Terry Hall hole on YouTube this evening. The most surprising has been a duet with Sinead O’Conner singing All Kinds Of Everything.

Love The Specials despite being too young at the time. RIP.

The Specials' frontman Terry Hall had been diagnosed with cancer shortly before his death this week at the age of 63, his bandmate has confirmed.
Bassist Horace Panter gave a moving account of his friend's final daysrevealing they had planned to record a new album in November before Hall was taken ill with a suspected stomach bug.
It later transpired to be pancreatic cancer, which had spread to his liver.
Initial treatment went well, but Hall began to fade in December, Panter said.
"Reports are not good," he wrote. "Terry has lost a lot of weight and is very frail.
"His friend Ian Broudie [of The Lightning Seeds] visits and phones manager Steve. He fears that Terry is slipping away."

He continued: "15th December and manager Steve drives up to London to visit. He calls me on his return journey and says things are not looking promising. Terry is dying. The next day he is put on morphine and is more-or-less unconscious for most of the time."
Panter said he had planned to visit his friend in hospital, but was advised not to by Hall's wife Lindy, who arranged a phone call to say goodbye.
"It was tough," Panter said. "Terry died around half past five the next evening, Sunday 18th December.
"The world has lost a unique voice and I have lost a good friend."

Just heard that, pancreatic cancer is a death sentence they need to find something to stop it or make it go into remission.
