O/T Rugby League Cup Final

The game was probably up there with the best finals I've ever seen tbh.
Loads of supporters got stuck on the M1, and according to reports, either missed the game totally, or arrived extremely late.

One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of 'lobby gobblers' with thick heads this morning!! 🥴

The accident involved Hull KR fans and unfortunately resulted in some fatalities. The match was brilliant and Hull KR were classy in defeat after the game.

The 1895 Final which followed had a cracking end to it too. Halifax leading 12-0 with 15 mins to go, Batley scored a great try to make it 12-6, the score stayed that way until the final hooter went. Of course they play until the ball goes dead so at this point Batley went on a move sideline to sideline and back before touching down in the corner to make it 12-10, they then had the last kick of the game for a tie but he missed it.

Edited to add a link to the try at the hooter

after the hooter

What I meant to say rather than a thumbs up was how sad it is that car fatalities mar a day like that - and agreed Hull KR as a club were really classy. From chairman to coach to players.

I don't take any interest in RL but was pleased to see that Leigh had won the Challenge Cup because going back several years they'd won a final at Bloomfield Road & I was cabbying at the time. Got a call to look out for someone in a large cone like red & white hat wobbling along Squires Gate Lane. Picked him up & got a juicy fare back to Leigh. He'd wandered off apparently & lost his coach. Got the full history of Leigh RLFC & at that time their struggles to get into the super league. Obviously it's all good now 🏉👍

I’ve a soft spot for Batley. My first proper job was there.
So sorry for the lad taking the conversion attempt and missing.

It reminded me of Don Fox, Wakefield Trinity, 1968, missing a last minute conversion too. But his was almost in front of the sticks. It’s remembered as “The Water Final”.
A bad day that………..a huge ‘pool following were at Huddersfield that afternoon. The oldies will recall a reason to hate a certain QPR player by 5pm that day.

it was a great final - dramatic and exciting, a proper, honest contest between two good teams.

very pleased to see Leigh (and Lancashire) win it though what with Lam (some player) and his old man, and derek, of course.

i also abide with the sentiment that league is a 'community sport' - something that plenty of football clubs, and fans, would do well to remember.
