Had a family bbq last night and ended up playing rounders - don’t understand why that’s not a UK sport! Any others from school?

Murder ball!
Lost one of my front teeth playing that-For those who never played it put a football in the middle of the pitch and score in the goal simple enough but you can do anything with the ball just used to end a bit of a punch up!

I think it was called Ball Chase - but no it wasn't that sort of thing. One boy had a tennis ball and threw it at the others who ran across in turn
in front of a wall. If it hit you the thrower swopped over with you, if missed the thrower picked the ball up from where it bounced back to and threw again at the next victim. Only exception when being hit was if you managed to get your fists together and punch the ball away before it hit the rest of you. Could send the ball a long way back, but didn't half sting. This was after we'd moved to down south, so probably a bit namby-pamby for real Northerners.

And then there was always "Kiss Chase" - with girls I hasten to add - and of course they were usually the ones doing the chasing - they could be quite predatory if they latched on to some poor male weakling.

At the 1904 Olympics you could win a gold medal in the Plunge for distance event. Basically you jumped in the pool and the one that floated furthest from the side without propulsion from arms or legs won. Apparently the grossly obese were better at it. Time to bring it back, based on most High Streets.

In receipt of benefits for being grossly obese and a medallist at the Olympics. Just think of the self esteem boost...

Boxing

Doesnt have to be contact. Some of the best gyms in the country dont even spar with head shots and theyre professional fighters. The benefits in general fitness, work ethic and discipline could go a long way to giving the youngsters something to focus on. The sport has helped a lot of young people turn their lives around already. I give Anthony Joshua as an example who would likely be in prison or involved in some dodgy stuff had he not turned up at his local boxing gym.

Great shout 👍

I was part of a boxing gym as a kid for a couple of years, it was really enjoyable and a good place to be.

We had cricket ball throwing at our junior school (Baines Endowed - Penrose Ave) at least up to 1980 when I left, however I think they stopped as it regurlarly ended up in the garden of the house at the end of the field.
Im sure it could be resurected

British Bulldogs. Broke my collarbone playing that. “Never did me any harm”
British Bulldogs was ace.
My claim to fame at junior school was standing on the start line and about 50 other kids chanting my name.
I managed to get about 30 yards along the course before I was dragged down, kicked and nearly suffocated.
Furthest distance for a long time apparantly 👊

Good shout, my 15 year old lad started boxing a couple of years ago. He doesn't have an ounce of aggression in him but now has more confidence should he be dragged into any trouble. They do spar and he loves it.

100% this.

My step son (14) has drifted in and out of it for a few years despite being very talented. The difference in his attitude and behaviour is miles better when he does it for a bit than when he doesn’t. Just wish I could get the little turd back into it at the moment.
