One of the routes into one of Blackpool's biggest car parks will be closed for a year while work on a £300m leisure development is carried out.

The £300m Blackpool Central leisure development just off the Golden Mile is expected to create over 1,000 jobs for local people, attract 600,000 additional visitors each year and bring millions of pounds of additional spend into the town.

The first phase of development is the creation of a new multi-storey car park, which will free up the existing Central Car Park to enable the leisure phase of the development which includes new attractions, hotel, restaurants, events square and heritage quarter.

The new car park will ensure there is sufficient parking for residents and visitors and the entrance to Central Car Park in Seasiders Way will be closed until Spring 2023 while the work is carried out.
The entrance to Central Car Park at Seasiders Way where it crosses Chapel Street via the bridge will be closed.

This will be from Wednesday, 23 March until spring 2023.
There will be no through route for traffic during this period via Central Car Park and Chapel Street. The diversions will be clearly signposted with traffic being diverted via routes at Parkinson Way/Waterloo Road and Bloomfield Road.

Pedestrian routes will be clearly marked into the town centre and 800 parking spaces will still be available at the existing Central Car Park via the main car park entrance on Central Drive.

Its only the bit near town. The rest is open and can still use to get to the stadium etc just not onto town. Expected really.

Smoke and mirrors, it's a multi storie car park, that's being built, then rented back to Blackpool council, the rest won't be built, hence why the company has 10 years plus for further development of the site.

Agree completely, I've said the same.

The council will have a nice new shiny carpark they can make a few quid from, then they will run out of funding for the rest of the project. To be honest, it was all a bit of a let down anyway, rumours of different big names coming to town so the actual plans were disappointing.

Given the increasing number of new build, upmarket hotels going up in the town centre then I'd say a new multi-storey car park is in order.

A lot of negativity on here, Blackpool is on the up, all we have to do is send all the benefit scrounges back to their home towns.
Unfortunately, the Blessed Margaret changed the legislation to allow people to move to the coast and still claim, putting the burden on the councils to find them accommodation.

I for one am shocked they’re doing the multi story car park first. Roll on the thousands of jobs!
Role on the thousand jobs? Are you for real!! A thousand jobs of door attendants, waiters ,bar staff, kiosk workers, ticket office worker, catering, cleaners, etc etc not exactly jobs you can hope to get a mortgage or expect to have a prosperous life. This just going to add to the poverty of Blackpool and attract scumbags. Blackpool needs to attract high paid more skilled employment in contrast to the low paid jobs it already has and more social problems .When will this town wake up. For fools sake!!!

I’ll add (sarcasm) in brackets next time…

These jobs are welcome and play a role and will have higher paid jobs too. There will be managers roles, there will be rides so presumably engineers etc.

It's all year round.

The lower class of jobs are perfect for those seeking jobs, better to have people in even basic work than on benefits.

I don’t really see the negativity. More jobs is more choice, an all year round attraction only adds another thing to Blackpools lost of things to do.

For a higher class of jobs the airport enterprise zone will be more of a place for that with more engineering type businesses popping up as it expands.

Not like you to have a pop at the great Mrs T Wiz.

To be fair, this one took you 3 minutes so you are getting better :)
