O/T Self isolation

Well this is fun. My 10 year old son, 12 week old daughter and my wife have got bad coughs over the past 24 hours my wife also has a cold. Informed school been told to self isolate. Spoke to my daughters high school and they explained that it’s looking likely they will close at Easter and that information from education meeting have mentioned that they might not reopen until September 😱. Worst thing is I’m at the end of my honours degree and really need to be in uni.

Not good but putting education on hold for a few months isn't a major issue compared to the bigger picture. Hopefully all recover soon. Maybe the government need to look into home learning plans. At the least parents need to be providing more than just an Xbox/PS and focus on a few more practical skills.

Schools themselves are responsible for setting work and this can be done remotely through apps like Show My Homework etc.

The problem is, most parents will be WORKING from home. How do you work from home and monitor your children during the day to ensure they are working on school studies?

For the younger children especially, it's also impossible to replicate the range of learning activities (including the socialisation) that they would receive during an average school day (speaking as an ex KS1 teacher)… for those children missing a whole term of school will have a dramatic effect on their education. I realise it may have to happen - just another way this awful virus is negatively affecting lives 😲

For older children, those families that are unwilling or unable to adequately help their children (including of course having consistent access to the internet resources) will result in massive variations in progress between Easter and September - academically and socially (especially in terms of "being ready" for when school finally restarts).

Unprecedented circumstances lead to unprecedented situations where we all have to use our common sense and in some cases imagination.
There are no magic difinitive answers to many of these conundrums, but we have to muddle through with the biggest concern being we don’t lose any loved one’s along the way.

Lala, I feel a few of us may need to borrow your "board stresshead" signature very soon😶 x

If your 12 week old daughter is in high school then hats off.

My sis is in self isolation she has just got a common cold so when she comes out will more than likely catch it which does seem a bit weird.

Why would you catch it from her? She's self isolating until she's not infectious.

We've just seen one of the warmest and dampest winters on record, there's all kinds of cold viruses going around, most self isolating won't have Corona and as pointed out above, will be just as susceptible in two weeks.

Don't doubt what you say but what is your point?

My daughter's Further Maths teacher has self isolated but put up 6 hours on content on the school website as a starter.
