O/T Selling Car Online

I have a car I want to sell and don't want the hassle of selling it privately - with tyre kickers coming around wasting time etc.

Does anyone have any experience of using "We Buy Any Car", or other sites such as "Cazoo" or "Motorway"? (I had to Google those.)

Thanks for any advice.

Webuyanycar quoted one price on-line for me - and then reduced the offer significantly in person.

You're paying for convenience though.

Yep, I'd heard about WBAC always knocking more of the price when they come to see it. I suppose the guy who turns up keeps some of the reduction as commission.

Depending on age, model etc. it might be worth sounding out the nearest dealership. I made a very decent profit selling mine to Lloyd BMW last year as demand was so high for decent second hand cars. They didn't dick me about either on price. I gave them an accurate description over the phone, they quoted me and they offered me exactly that when I took it in.

I hadn't thought of that - I'll give them a try. 👍 They know the car as I bought it new from them and they've serviced it for the last four years.

I suspect that all WBAC etc are doing is sending their cars to auction, who then sell them to dealers, so if you can cut out the middleman you'll get a better price, and if the dealer knows the car then it cuts out the uncertainty for them so the price should be better still.

I'd definitely go down that route in that case. I'd also suggest a quick check on the makers used car network, get a good ballpark on what they are selling similar ones for. Then knock a bit off that for the profit and gives you a rough number for ballpark figure.

It was started by the owners of Carcraft to buy stock for their showrooms without any middlemen. Eventually they became the middle-men for the rest of the industry.

They even went as far as selling carcraft to their own management team (it went bankrupt less than 12 months later) and keeping webuy.
