O/T - The Queen

Not a fan of the Royal family but I've respect for her. I'm afraid it will come to us all at some point & whether it's imminent I've no idea (hope not)

Private Eye have been suggesting for a while that she is very seriously ill and not expected to live very long. Not sure why they would be the only ones who would know this and be able to report it, but it doesn’t sound good.

She seems a decent enough women. Feel sorry for her as she's just a figurehead born into a trapped life, it's a bit like the lion in a zoo. Hope she at least makes it to the platinum jubilee especially as its been made into a bank holiday.

This lady has devoted her life to serving the people of the UK, and is no doubt one of the most respected figures in the world. Few on here will remember her father or the Coronation. I saw it on a little (big for the day) 10 inch Bush Black & White TV, but didn't really understand what was going on. She deserves all our respect, whether royalist or not, for what she has done for the reputation of this once great country. Long Live the Queen and may she see her deserved platinum Jubilee.

Very fair points Curryman. She has spent a whole life doing her duty by the country. It's a concept that is sadly losing ground.

The sad thing is she's never had a choice. She's had to get on with her lot and it's been a long time doing it. I feel for her because I bet she's yearned desperately for a normal life.

I bet she's yearned for her offspring to step up to the plate and in a lot of things they've been sadly lacking. I'll probably let Anne off from that criticism.

You didn’t understand what was going on when you were 32??

She’s 95 and probably exhausted. She never thought she would live this long even though her mother lived to 102. Her mother had more of a charmed life after her husband died.

I watched her coronation on a little black and white TV too.I remember it pouring with rain .

There are very few world wide who don`t respect her. We really could not have asked for any more from her, she has conscientiously served this country well all her adult life.

I for one will be very sad when we finally lose her.

I am not sure she remembers what a “normal life” is. Nor whether she has ever thought it possible. HMQ was 10 years old when she became heir to the throne. It has been often reported that she regarded her coronation oath and the anointment in the abbey as a sacred undertaking. So sacred in fact, that she thinks her monarchy is a divine appointment directly from God. Apparently, she resembles Charles I in that respect. Without the stupidity, of course.

I think, more or less for everyone on here, The Queen has been pretty much a constant in our lives and, though no Royalist myself by any means, the World will seem a sadder place without her in it. I guess they are keeping her wrapped in cotton wool for her Platinum Jubilee, which would be a non-event should she pass before then.

Quite possibly the effect of losing her husband they clearly were fundamental to the happiness of each other . I hope she finds some resolution and purpose in this phase of her life. If she chooses not to then I hope she finds peace in whatever comes next.

Pretty much my thoughts, oh and Charles is a bellend so it's best if she hangs on in there.

This might be the first time the Queen and the phrase ‘10 inch black bush’ have been used in the same sentence...
