O/T the spirit of cricket is dead

During the Bangladesh v Sri Lanka game today, Angelo Mathews came out to bat following the fall of a wicket.

He was getting ready to face his first delivery and adjusted his helmet and the chin strap broke. He asked for a new helmet and during the time he was waiting for a new lid the Bangladeshi captain appealed and he was given out "timed out" as he wasn't ready to face his first ball within the stipulated 2 minutes under the rules of the world cup.

I think cricket has reached an all time low and the 'spirit of the game' has now completely gone.

Not true.

The third umpire came on at the interval and stated that Mathews had messed about for so long that the 2 minutes had long elapsed before his chin strap broke. No sympathy myself. Far too much dithering in the game with batsmen fannying around with equipment.

Either way what a strange way to be given out and not really what you would class as within the spirit of the game.

Mind you, when Bairstow was given out in the Ashes when clearly not seeking to gain an advantage or steal a run you know the "spirit" of the game is well and truly f@cked.

I think there are on-field ways to punish the batter's side rather than an out. They could waive the time restriction on the bowling team and allow the bowling side more players outside the circle for longer.

One of those where the incident has to happen before you can applying some logic for the future.

Cricket is so much better ran than football look at VAR compared to the cricket review system, they are miles ahead
