Lad has gone through some troubled times, especially losing his Dad so young.

Funny how I haven't seen any diving (outside of football) since the last Olympics but I could recognise great dives when I saw them. Mainly based on the lack of splash at entry. Should be a judge.

Because to some people, his sexuality is an issue, a discriminator, a reason for him not to succeed. He's trying to make a point. If everybody was tolerant and accepting, he wouldn't need to say it. But there are still people out there who will immediately bring his sexuality into the conversation. As seen near the start of this thread.
 
Loved yesterday morning. Amazing achievement by Tom Daley. In the limelight for all these years and finally it paid off. An iconic moment.
 
How hard must they have practised getting the timing absolutely perfect.
Unbelievable cohesion in that diving.

I understand that, but by mentioning it, is he not highlighting those who are intolerant and unaccepting? Just sad that in 2021 it is still an issue.
 
Can’t imagine the presssure to not phook up when they stood up there before the final dive. Those lads have serious balls. Well done. Daley has clearly put everything into being the best over a long long time.

Because just like the England players missing penalties, he knew if he didn't succeed, people would bring it up. So it's as important to bring it up when he did. To stop other people being afraid to be open because they are scared of the consequences.

Serious balls? Not half. My stomach would churn just looking over the edge of the board.
