o/t Will Fuel Prices dictate your football viewing?

Price of diesel went up by 6p a litre overnight at some garages in Lincolnshire 🙁. I think there will be much more to come over the next few weeks. Will definitely pick and chose my matches now

this set me thinking about years gone by. I remember going into my local boozer on the friday night before we played Northampton away on the saturday. We had a spare car seat and asked aself proclaimed big blackpool fan if he fancied it. He replied not a chance i can’t afford it - as i watched him spunk a fiver (a lot in them days) in the fruit machine and countless pounds on his beer - I suppose it’s all about priorities when it comes down to cost as to whether you go or not.

Diesel? There will soon be a resurgence in back street refiners of used oil taken from the chip shop. And anyone working in agriculture will be regularly stopped by the cops or revenue men testing for red diesel in their car’s tank.

Some better news this morning ..

Oil prices have plunged after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said it supported increasing production.
Brent crude, an international benchmark, fell more than 17% at one point after the statement by the UAE, a member of the powerful oil cartel Opec.
The fall follows weeks of skyrocketing prices due to fears of supply disruptions sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The rising prices have put a financial squeeze on families around the world.
President Joe Biden and other leaders have pledged to try to ease the price pressures for households. Officials from the US have been in talks with oil producers aimed at boosting supply.
"We favour production increases and will be encouraging Opec to consider higher production levels," Ambassador Yousuf Al Otaiba said in a statementtweeted by the UAE Embassy in Washington.
Energy prices have been soaring for more than a year amid a rapid rebound in demand for oil, which had collapsed during the pandemic

Heard about the first case of fuel theft last week - weird cars that don't have a secure petrol cap but this guy got £60 of petrol syphoned from his car.

Hopefully the transition will be managed to some degree and so will the increases. It’s going to hurt though.

Living in the Pool it won’t affect me re home games.

More generally I think we have to take a hit if we want to become less dependent on Russia. I’m supportive of that absolutely. I think we all have an obligation to accept that principles and human decency often come at a price and we have to readjust our own lifestyle accordingly when necessary.
…..not just Russia but our dependence on China for so many of our goods is and has been a problem we just constantly seem to ignore.
I find it depressing when I am looking to buy something that at best I might see designed in the UK but manufactured in China.
We need to have the political as well as an individual will to face this but will this happen probably not but ultimately it is probably going to come back and bite us in the proverbial bum.
