OAKLEY- BOOTHE

I thought Oakley Boothe did ok on his debut appearance.
He is a different sort of player to Norburn , not as combative, but much better going forward. He was also making his debut against one of the best teams in the league.
He has good control , rarely gives the ball away and is clearly a footballer. I noticed on Saturday that he was always showing for those Premiership type short passes but rarely got them. Was it the other Blackpool players who didn't want to, or weren't confident enough to play them, or did they not trust him? I though that he would have linked up well with Dembele who is also confident on the ball.
We will have to see if he plays tonight.

I personally felt he was a mile off of the pace. He very rarely showed for the ball. His distribution was entirely backwards and sideways never attempted to spread the ball. I'm not sure he offered much if anything at all.

Is that not what Critch wants though?

Can I caveat it too that he's playing a first league start away to 2nd in the division? Not match fit but in terms of my assessment of how he performed that was it.

He started well and looked confident on the ball. As the game moved in he became less involved probably due to a lack of match fitness.

Remember we were playing 2nd in the league and this was his debut.

It looks like he has all the attributes if he progresses to make a meaningful contribution this season.

Agree with both sides. Has a bit of quality about him and I reckon when he beds in more he will be a useful asset.

He offers something different to Norburn but isn’t fully fit yet. The form and choices during the game clearly show that.

I'd agree with that, the one problem on saturday is that he didnt have quite the same understanding with kenny as norburn does at the moment and they were occasionally getting in each others way.

To be fair to the lad our midfield didn't really work first half as you had KD+TO back with defence and SC with attack which left at times a huge amount of space in the centre of the park.
The understanding between the 3 wasn't there which can happen when new together.

Our defenders pushed further forward second and we improved but by then TO had faded out of the game.

I thought he was neat and tidy without risking anything which would show his presence in the game, just as you would expect from a young guy making his first start at this level. Neat and tidy is not a bad base to build from.

If ON isn't fit, the the lad plays. You don't play him away v a good side and not play him in tonights game. That would be the act of a madman.

Bench it is then......

I thought he was decent enough without really doing much of note just steady. I do think he will improve though.
One thing I would say is at the moment I wouldn't play both him and Carey at the same time. Maybe as they both get more games and hopefully a bit more confidence it can work but not presently.

Another who thought he did OK, he wasn't the only one who struggled to get a grip of the game in the 1st half. He has a lot to prove and his performances to date have been OK. That said, I hope Norburn is fit tonight.

I'd play him tonight if Norbs not fully fit. We should get forward more at home against Chelts, which would suit him, and he'll gain a lot of confidence. Him and Dembele could be the key to opening them up, especially if they play two banks of five.
