50 years go since that infamous England v Poland WC qualifier. The last 25 mins of that game were the most emotional I have ever been
at a football match. How we didn't score I'll never know and the feeling of utter disbelief at the final whistle. Poland had a good World Cup so
had we won that game I'm sure we would have done well . 1974 was a miserable summer , no World Cup for us oh and Blackpool were 7 minutes
from promotion.

That was the only time I’ve watched England live at Wembley . Travelled there and back on the metal floor of an old van , which , when you’ve had a bellyful of ale is no fun at all . A bit like the match itself.

Remember it well. I think my adrenaline levels were probably off the scale as well. As indeed they were just after the Sunderland game

omg I remember that like it was yesterday. clough called the polish keeper a clown . but he kept England out. Watching on a COLOUR tv which was still a novelty. And Alf Ramsey resigned . And should have been replaced with Brian Clough. Not the dinosaur that was Don Revie.

THANKS glasshalfull. England spent a decade in the international wilderness until we qualified for SPAIN 82. And the quickest ever international goal by Bryan Robson .

I was devastated at the time, that was a pretty good England team that could have done well had we won.

I was always a big Emlyn Hughes fan.

Scotland pit a good squad out in the World Cup. Just not enough goals, as usual.
