Ollie Norburn

And to think they got a decent wedge of cash from us and replaced him with that decent lad who scored the pen tonight, must be pissing themselves 😞

What’s gone wrong with Norburn?

He was a Fantastic signing but he’s gone down hill at an alarming rate.

Talking of going downhill Where’s Lyons these days? he’s light years ahead of some of these starting tonight.

In Critchley we trust. 🐍

All of the midfield needs looking at. On paper we are strong but………..we unfortunately don’t play on paper ! That is our big problem they are not involved as they should be.

The whole midfield seemed to go missing tonight, and don't get me started on Husbands distribution. Every pass went straight to their defenders.
It’s a hard watch. Husband and Connolly both shocking.

I reckon we waste most of our possession pretending we are going to pass it through the team by going side to side a bit before it ends up at the back, usually with someone under pressure, to then just wallop it forward in a hit and hope style. And we carry on doing it when we have midgets like Lavery and Dembele as the targets…

We may as well embrace it and go full on long ball and just stop pretending. Get Gary Goals back in, move Marv up top, have done with it.

Norburn takes a bit of a battering off some but I think he's fine for what his role is. He won it back a few times today and yeh granted he plays safe but it's not his fault that the defender then lumps it forward rather than jeeping the ball again. I think he's as much of a victim of this team/formation/tactics as anyone else

System.

You can't really be too critical of the intent and the ambition behind the signing, on paper it was a great one and he started off very strong the first few games but yeah, he's dropped off a cliff, I haven't given up on him given his pedigree but it's not looking great.

More to the point. What's happened to Morgan for the last few games. He was playing really well and starting to find his feet. But whenever he plays with Norburn it is as though he sucks all the attacking intent out of him. How he is captain when he never ever gees players up or gets into the refs ear or inspires others is beyond me. Yet Critchley picks him whenever he is fit because he does little backwards and sideways passes which looks good on the stats.

Don't like to single players out but he is so ponderous it beggars belief. Not of a mind to defend Critchley, and the starting formation didn't work, but not possible to press aggressively with players as slow as that. No quality on the ball in midfield either. We'd be better with pretty much any of our other midfield players as the deepest midfielder and he can't play further forward as an 8 either given his total lack of ability to drive forward. I wonder if his injury in 2022/23 has really had a bad impact on him.

Worst choice of captain since MugDonald thought it would be a good idea to give the captaincy to David Ferguson
Not been impressed since his opening few games really. He's been too slow and hesitant and first thought often backwards.

Dougall a huge loss it seems. Maybe some will appreciate him now, was running games this season and went to a new level.

He needs a playmaker alongside him...

We ain't got one. 😫

Well we finished 3rd, and won the playoffs comfortably. Can’t have been that bad.
It was the best we have had, Stewart was a really high class player but never really featured again, we have never had that quality creative goalscoring midfielder, I don't count Dembele as a midfielder

Norburn sucks the life out of all the players around him. Marv took a lot of stick early on in the season, when I think Norburn was putting him (and other defenders) under pressure. When Dougs played alongside him, Dougs made him look reasonable. Every other player in the midfield has to compensate for him, he's always at the periphery of the action, doesn't really tackle, rarely intercepts, his passing is woeful, and is rarely in a position to accept a pass from other players or (even worse) is demanding the ball when he's already man on. I cannot see how Critchley or any of the coaching or scouting staff could possibly identify him as a good player, particularly in the anchor midfield role when we already had one of, if not the best in the division at doing the midfield anchor role.

You can see why Peterborough let him go, because there is no way that Norburn could function in their current set up.

He's so limited, how he made it into the professional game is beyond me.
Slow, one footed, can't tackle properly, incapable of any creative passing and in terms of captaining the side fails to organise and motivate his teammates. In summary, an awful signing.
I agree with you. I think most of the problems come from his total and utter lack of mobility. He can't run! Scared to take a risky pass because if it gets intercepted he will never get back and so on. He clearly did have some sort of pedigree so can only really think the cruciate injury that kept him out for one year in 2022/23 was really a bad one.

I'm surprised he passed a medical.

Not by a long way? Agenda alert....
Stewart Dougall and Embleton were the best we have had since whenever, but we have always lacker that really killer player. We were the best side in that division for the last 30 games and deserved to go up automatically. I have no idea what has happened to Critchley since, maybe CC was a massive reason for it because Critchley is absolutely bobbins now.

They were all Championship standard players. You're talking cack again.

The real problem is that although Morgan is at times a good passer of a ball he is a very weak tackler of the ball, and he doesn't win
50/50s. Virtue is a yard too slow, and Norburn is one footed, and cannot pass with his left foot. Carey is the player who seems to have gone
missing in recent weeks, maybe it is time to try a midfield three of Byers, Morgan, and Carey.

Critch's one saving grace is his 'coaching' .. that's gone well this season!!
