I’m a big fan. Arguably the most consistent player and absolutely the most versatile we have in the team but so many would be happy to get rid.

I’m sure he can do a job for us in this league. He is definitely Mr Reliable and even if he isn’t first XI, he would 100% be the first person on the bench.

A much improved player. Has earned a crack at the Championship IMO, but is out of contract if we don’t take up the option on it I think, so who knows?

He's in there as a very valuable and good quality squad player.

I'd like to see us bring in a RB who can start for us at Championship level, we saw how Gabriel coming in inspired Ollie to raise his game and would be good for the squad to have more competition there.

Definitely far better in the second half of the season, funnily enough coincided with CJ getting injured. Which proved my original points about his distribution method.

I personally think he'll get found out at Championship level but he's worth a year.

He’ll always put a shift in. Championship will be just too fast for him, but he will still do a decent job there. Just need to look at upgrading the position over the next couple of years and then let him go to L1 as an established higher tier player looking for a long contract and a solid pay day 👍 every confidence that we will be doing right by ourselves and our players every step of the way from now on, and every time I look at an individual situation I can clearly see the logic behind every decision or delay

I think Div 1 is his level. I lost count of the number of times Ballard refused to pass him the ball in the first half on Sunday. When he did get it , instead of going forward and creating something he just passed it back to the Goalkeeper. Time after time.
He clearly didnt have the ability or confidence to go forward with it. He is a squad player at best, possibly holding up younger talent like Gabriel from getting more game time.

You have some interesting counting habits. Nigel!

And a habit, I'd suggest, of looking for things to prove a point and seeing things that aren't there, like someone refusing to pass to somebody. Pure imagination, of the negative kind, if you ask me.

I was too busy actually watching the fast flowing exciting match to find time to be counting non passes.
Oh, tell a lie, I did do a bit of important counting. 2-1 to us. Did it all on the fingers of one hand too. Quite impressed with myself

When you think how much has been spent on long contracts and wages for players who haven't made any difference whatsoever compared to what we've got from Ollie Turton on a one year retainer he's been worth his weight in gold to the squad and the club.

A coach or manager is always going to want to spend his budget on goalscorers rather than top of the range full backs.

Just read the match day thread from Wembley on page 4 and see how GoForGoal reacted when Turton put the ball in the net, embarrassing 😔
That wasn’t just the og, its been my opinion of him since he signed. Right or wrong, at least I’m consistent. Virtually every time he receives the ball he stops it the passes 40 yards backwards, he puts one decent cross in every 10 or so games and gets caught out of position with alarming regularity. He is also deceptively slow, so no I’m not his biggest fan. Some posters say he can play anywhere, he can, and he’s just as bad in any position.

Well our magnificent coach obviously disagrees with you. 😉

Very harsh mate

I’m not trying to persuade him or anyone else Voy. As you know I like you am a man of my own opinions, I am not asking anyone else to agree or change their own views. It’s a game of opinions and as as I have said many times before, I will defend anyones right to have one and express it.👍

I'll not quote you, everyone can read your matchday post, but the way you articulated your temper at Turton after just 60 seconds was uncalled for. Did you use the same expletives directly at Barnsey when he slipped against Leyton Orient at Cardiff? In both cases, we came back and won the two finals. Remember the phrase on here often used - "keep the faith", it helps on matchdays, as often comments as bad as yours bring the matchday thread down to a level that makes no sense at all when we're all supposed to be "supporters". We were all pissed off when the own goal went in, but your vitriol was unwelcomed.

I have to say that your post today was an opinion far better articulated, whether others agree with you or not.

I'd have no issue with Turton being in the squad next season. You know he'll fill in at full back when needed - but likely won't be first choice - and he's also an option to play in the holding midfield role. If he's happy being a squad member, then I don't see why we wouldn't want to have him in the mix.
Straightens. I agree. There is of course no room for sentiment in football and players that have been excellent for us in League 1 may not cut the mustard in the Championship. I'm not sure if that does apply to Turton but I would give him a contract because of his versatility.
I'd be delighted for him to prove me wrong.

Are you sure you know which player Turton is ?! I respect that may well be your opinion but I’ve watched every game this season and can say without the slightest bit of doubt that Turton positional play is one of his biggest strengths. He’s defensively very good. There’s a reason he’s been playing ahead of Gabriel in a team which got promoted and there’s a reason he’s able to play a multitude of positions very effectively and it’s not because he’s a bad player.

Maybe football isn’t your sport.

I know which he is, in my opinion, the worst one on the field. Note the qualification “ in my opinion “

Most consistent player of the season! Lowest wage too!!
Try opening your eyes & be more positive, instead of criticising our players, or one in particular, who most agree has been excellent in various positions.
He has been putting crosses in EVERY game, despite being a RB!
Defo deserves another 1+1 contract

One of Critch's go to players for our run in. Skip if you can the high profile error in which two mistakes from two more of our key players preceded and there contributed to his slip up. Ask who was defensively organised, who was up the pitch keeping the ball alive and getting dangerous crosses in? Definite contract for me. Thanks for this season Ollie 🧡 👍

I am not being negative, I don’t rate him,my opinion, you do, your opinion. If everyone agreed with everyone else what a boring place this board would be.

Gabriel isn’t our player...oh and by the way if you hadn’t noticed we just got promoted with a certain player who never lets us down.

The goal against Lincoln wasn't even his fault

If you have to blame someone blame Ballard for losing his man or Garbutt for allowing the cross

As for Turton he's solid, reliable and on a low wage why on earth wouldn't you want to keep him

Threads like this make me realise why I don't post as much these days

Is he any worse or any better than Neil Eardley who strangely looked a better player in the Prem than he ever did in Division 1 - same can be said for many of his contemporaries - the less disruption to the current team spirit the better for me and Ollie surely has earned the right to give it a go!

Well after such a magnificent season ending in promotion I really don't want to start naming players that I think aren't good enough for the championship,
But some of the comments regarding Ollie Turton makes me wonder if I've been watching the wrong games.
He is what he is, and I do genuinely think Chritch has improved both Turton and Husband. But when you have played in a certain position you tend to pay attention to the players who hold down that place.
I would think we all do that?
I am often screaming at the TV telling Turton to get closer to his man, sometimes he isn't anywhere to be seen.
I personally would like to see us sign a good quality right back, but if Ollie gets a new contract then I will trust the manager that's just got us promotion.

I like Turton. He certainly grew on me throughout the season becoming Mr Dependable.

I would qualify it by saying he does pass the ball backwards an awful lot. But his defensive work is sound. A confidence thing I think. In some games he has marauded forwards and looked exceptional. But in other games he seemed to go back into his safety first shell.

I've appreciated Mr T all season. He's got a good football brain. Time will tell if he is good enough in the Championship but he deserves a chance to show what he can do.

Ollie has earned a chance to prove himself, no doubt - he's been brilliant over the run in. He's also earned a pay increase if rumours of $800 a week are true (I get paid more than that for pretending to work in an office) , sure the club are thinking the same.
