On another day

How many times have we heard this from the straw clutchers?
On another day we'd have had two goals, a win, a clean sheet, a draw etc etc.
Isn't it strange that we've not had too many "other days" and quite a few clueless days, especially away from home.
I suppose some are happy with league one football but being as entitled as I am, would like to see Blackpool FC playing in the highest division they can and I believe that the championship is that division.
All praise SS for pumping circa £5 million/year into the club and having one of the biggest budgets in the league.
The question that needs asking though is what are the likes of Posh, Oxford and Stevenage, with smaller budgets doing that Blackpool aren't?
(Apart from winning more games, obviously 😁)

I like the ‘straw clutchers’ phrase 👍😁

The one difference I can see (bar winning more) is their managers have been in place longer than ours. Oxford balk that but that is because Manning left to go to a higher level but that was Nov so he had been in place longer upto that point.

Also none of those 3 were relegated last season.

With Blackpool being relegated from a higher division surely the majority of that squad would have been better than league 1 players.
I can understand the likes of Maidstone winning a one off in the fa cup but if they played Ipswich 46 times a season, would probably win 2 or 3 more.
Possibly a shite analogy but you'd expect Blackpool with better players to win far more than they lose in this division.
IMO this rests with Critchley, personally I think he's gone backwards as a manager and anyone who can trawl through historical posts will see I was a big Critchley supporter.
Unfortunately, this season he's approached games with far too much caution and the tippy tappy football (which I don't mind) hasn't been understood or able to be played by most of the team.

Will he learn by his mistakes to turn it around this season?
Will he learn for next season?

What did Einstein say about insanity?

Good points.
We relied too much on Appletons loan gems last season and the players we were left with are good but certainly weren’t better than upper L1 players (we certainly weren’t turning offers down for them). So once again it was a rebuild this summer.

My frustration is that I wished he had have done maybe a video explaining more his tactic and vision. Why are we setting up in this formation away from home, or why are we not getting the results he expects? I watched the Burnley doc with Kompany as new manager. It took them until Christmas to see the impact of his strategy. However he was clear on why he was doing it and what he expected to see in the end.

We made them look silly at Turf Moor. I was at that game and thought their defensive players suicidal. However in March onward it paid dividends and they went up comfortably. I’m clutching to the hope that Critch as a good tactical coach knows this will take time to pay off but jeez I would like him to explain why before I turn into ATG and moan at everything and everyone.

Don't hold your breath for a tactics video from Critchley.
He's already got loads of badges for doing what he does and obviously is far more knowledgeable about these things so doesn't have to explain himself to anyone ☹️😔

Looking at the full table (goals for etc) there’s not as much in it than you might think. Obvs in a 3pt win system this can stack up more quickly.

For me this season has been typified by inconsistency which, imo, stems from playing too many players out of their natural positions. In other words forcing a system on a squad rather than maximising what we have. It can come as no surprise if it takes players time to adjust.

On a side point - it would be interesting to examine the injury stats for other teams. We seem to have more than our fair share, especially amongst strikers, again!

On this thesis, the recruitment is also a factor, and we have not been able to get the players that fit the managers style in time for it to make a difference.

In turn this then points to the owners approach that this is a ‘project’. In other words it may take time. And to be fair he has stated this repeatedly.

Frustrating for the fans (and players??). We go away and soundly beat Pompey andin the same season lise to that shower yesterday.

Enough to drive one mad!!!

To be fair Oxford have a similar budget I agree with the rest though
