22 outfield players. We've currently 20. Some could well depart. Dale Tharme Casey Trybull Virtue all possible. Beesley if he doesnt show up well in pre season. I think 2 or 3 of those may go out, allowing 4 or 5 in. Dale and Tharme. Trybull perhaps. Beesley possibly.

Virtue will be a first team player as will Beesley and I’d expect them to do well in League 1 and with a coaching team they know well and that clearly their abilities. Remember Critch made Virtue his captain at LFC and stuck by him when injuries hit here. The coaches then took him to Lincoln at the first opportunity and he impressed - now Critch and the same coaches are back here so he’ll likely play. Beesley was brought in to play Championship football. He’s now in League 1 with the same manager and coaches who fancied him then so there’s every chance he plays plenty too. We don’t have to buy players for players sake. This manager and these coaches will get a damn site more out of any of these players than Appleton or McCarthy managed.

I understand all that and yes Virtue likely to be involved. We do have Norburn Trybull and Kenny though and need some more creativity. Beesley will stay if he proves his fitness in pre season. He's played very few games in 18 months. Needs to prove himself. Sooner or later.
 
I think Virtue and Beesley both have a lot to prove, I’ve never been impressed with either. Wouldn’t be surprised for them to feature in pre-season then end up sold/loaned out before the season starts.

I think we’ve got 6 good options in the middle now for this level. 3 different midfield roles with 2 players capable of playing each role.
It’s a bit of a simplistic view but I see it as a Defensive midfielder in Trybull and Dougall, Traditional CM/Box to Box Midfielder in Norburn and Virtue and Attacking Midfielder in Carey and Morgan. Now if Stewart can prove himself fit enough to earn a pay as you play contract then maybe one of those 6 makes way (Carey, Morgan and Virtue are capable of playing in other positions I reckon) or gets first team football on loan

That is probably how it's shaping up but theres a real lack of creativity, for me. Nobody with that vision and technical ability thing. You may say I'm a dreamer....

Tharme needs to be given a chance. Scrafters said he was excellent pre season last year and had a full season in the League we now find ourselves in.

We didn’t really have that player in League 1 last time either. You could argue it was Embleton and I’d suggest Morgan is a direct replacement in that regards and that Carey with his experience now should be a big player at this level too - especially now with a competent coach who actually makes players better

We haven't had that player ever since Sadler took over. Carey was a youngster plucked out of non-league who could step up and Morgan we have node yet, but I would like us to get a creative playmaker with the experience of a Norburn or Trybull. I'm not sure why Voy keeps dismissing Trybull, if we get a season from him he will play every game, he and Norburn will be immense but we seem to lack that creative spark to play in front of them unless Carey, Morgan or Apter step up.

We also need at least one winger unless we are going to play wing backs and if Yates goes a striker.

Im not sure why you think Trybull will suddenly start playing regularly.

Kaikai rarely played as part of a midfield though - if at all. I think we’ll see more of the same with creativity likely to be expected to come from out wide and from overlapping fullbacks.

That being said - KaiKai is a free agent. Would you have him back ?

I would 100% as he offers something different

Unfortunately I dont think he fits into the regimental Critchley system

We’re definitely in need of two wide players if we’re intending on playing a formation anything like what we did with Critchley last time around. I’m convinced Kirk will be one of those players that arrive though - and I think he does have what it takes to play Critchleys system and I actually think in League 1 and with Critchley in charge he’ll do well.

Dale should be given the chance right wing, plus if Gabriel and Lyons both available one could play right wing and protect the other. Lyons scores goals also which is a big plus.
Marv had a year to forget and does get caught out but his speed and telescopic legs help him recover. I cannot see Jerry leaving, and if he did it would be on terms we wanted, and a replacement already in place.
