One more thing about yesterday

I can't add anything to what's already been said, well played the whole team, great win.

So unfortunately rather downbeat, or maybe just realistic, but it needs paying attention to.

We fell foul twice yesterday of the ridiculous new rule about kicking the ball away. Two booked, and with substantial amount of the game still to go.

I know and am glad that the issue is being addressed. Without having a better solution, I don't like yellow cards for it though - it doesn't sit right with me. Players should be redcarded for serious infringements, eg bad tackles. Now you can go for kicking the ball away and taking too long over something.

However, it is what it is and in a close game like yesterday it could have cost us badly. We got off with it but the players must learn straight away to just leave everything alone and get into position.

Unfortunately most footballers are slow on the uptake re these things, it's ingrained in them.

I'm sure Critchley has already talked to them about it, probably at half time as it didn't happen again in the second half.

Yep, they'll have already been prepared for this rule.
I actually thought we were quite unfortunate, iirc the first was a shot a second after the ref had blown, and the second (Pennington?) the ball must have travelled about 5 yards.

I'm pretty sure Wigan did something similar when we sat back on 70 minutes and they were attacking, but the ref was inconsistent and didn't book their player.

Fully agree Dave, and that emphasizes the point all the more.

I remember thinking, while daft, it was also quite harsh. But with a lack of common sense jobsworth like that, it's an unnecessary risk.

Perhaps slow on the uptake is the wrong choice of phrase, but it's ingrained in professionals (and sadly lots of amateurs) to do lots of little, and frankly unnecessary, things to gain any advantage they can.

The Pennington one actually moved the ball to exactly where the 'foul' was, and they took the free kick from that point without touching the ball. Ridiculous card.

I lost total faith in him when he gave a free kick for Weir running past a player with the ball under full control.

I agree with a booking for kicking the ball away. Should be the same for going down like a shot gazelle clutching their heads when they were tapped on the ankle or goalkeepers falling on the ball for the next 30 seconds. Just as long as the new rules are administered fairly .
Get them to play the game or get booked. They'll soon learn

Exactly this. The most ridiculous yellow card I've seen in a long time. Literally kicked the ball back to the free kick position. He should've just left it to waste more time!
