OT - England v Ireland ODI

I hope Ireland get a score of some sort to make it interesting. Already 2 down but are scoring at a decent rate. It would be great for Mahmood to have a good game also.

Quick edit to say well done Saquib, 3rd wicket down - 28/3 off 5.4

A *weakened England side but still very strong. Banton is a real prospect so it would be nice to see a little cameo from him later.

Make that 28-5, this is going to be over by 4pm at this rate.

It`s a funny thing watching a game like this .On the one hand you are always looking for England to do well and win but on the other hand you want to have a target that is reasonably challenging and gives our batsmen a chance to show how good they are and entertain us.

O'Brien is a decent bat, I'm surprised he didn't come in a bit earlier. If he can get in we may have something to chase. 60-5 so a mini recovery going on.

I agree 50s . . . I went to the Scotland v England ODI a few years ago. It was a lovely day and Scotland batted first. Although we wanted England to win we also wanted to see a decent game so hoped Scotland would post a challenging score. They certainly did that with a total of 371 . . . England went off like a train but ended up falling short. It was a fantastic game.

O'Brien goes, one thing that immediately jumps out is that Rashid is far better than either of the spinners in the test match squad. I think this'll be over fairly quickly.
That Scotland game was a great match, England lost it, then won it only to lose it again - some bad running between the wickets at the death cost the game.

I was thinking exactly the same El B. He has looked dangerous from the first ball. There’s something about a leg spinner that makes them look more threatening - that’s why I’d be giving Parky a chance in the test team.

I suppose you could say that the standard of batsman is lower here but Rash was playing test matches until fairly recently and doing some good things.
IMO Moeen Ali is also better than either of the two in the test squad and tends to get important test match wickets. I hope he gets his head back in the right place for test match cricket.
I haven't seen enough of Parkinson to really have an opinion.

In test cricket England seem to prefer the containing type spinner (Bess & Leech) rather than the attacking spinner (Rashid & Parky). Parky is similar to Rashid . . He can leak runs but takes wickets. He was taking wickets in the warm up games in Sri Lanka just before lockdown- think he would have played in the tests there.

If England wanted to wrap this up quickly why don't they bowl out Willey or Mahmood? I'm pretty sure they'd knock these last 3 wickets over.

Decent enough recovery from Ireland to get to 172.
I didnt think they'd make 100, so at least it gives us something to chase. With their main bowler appearing to be out, it'll be interesting to see who they use. That said, if they don't bowl us out in 40 overs they've already lost.

I know it’s Ireland and they’re not the same class as the Aussies or Indians etc but we really have got a depth of talent now.
I’m struggling to pick our starting 11
