OT - New Music... songs you've been listening to recently that no one might have heard of!

So, on the eve of a new season I'm always looking for a distraction. These tunes are how I'm distracting myself tonight. First time I've heard them is this week... mine have got a distinctly bluegrass/ country tilt!

Turn em up loud folks!

It fits none of your criteria, but I don’t have a song that does ! It’s old, and everyone will know it. But it’s a shame to waste any music thread and I’ve being enjoying this recently for no reason at all ! Random.

Probably fits the criteria, but no one else on here will rate it. Cos I’m a girl innit, different breed to you guys 😍

Shameless plug for The Mysterines - my lovely niece, Lia, is the lead singer / song writer! Had the pleasure of watching them at Liverpool Arts Club pre lockdown, Only done a few songs but destined for great things in my less than humble opinion!

Three songs getting a bit of airplay I am liking are:

New York by JW Francis
For Sure - Future Islands
This is what you did - This is the kit

And for a smile it has to be 'Fixer Upper' by Yard Act.

New York was Ok...

For Sure... I like it... the video fits the song so well. unique vocals. I've added it to one of my playlists. BUT... Ran came on after that... I'm in love with that song! So thank you for introducing me to them. They make a sound that I can't describe. (even if he does look like a midget version of the hound from GOT! 😂 ) Think I'll be listening to them for a fair while yet!

Also love This is the Kit... feel like I might enjoy them even more than I did after a smoke. Another band that you've put on my radar so thanks!

I need this one on next time I'm out in town (given the situation these days... who knows when that might be!?) 😕

making the effort to listen to all the songs everyone posts in no particular order... sick of having a limited selection of music.... keep em comming

I WIN EVERY TIME

Edit: from that one song alone I'll buy a live ticket next chance they get to play live. let me know when they do... can bring a couple folks along. Such a banger

Ian put these on as a support act at short notice at the Waterloo before Marcus Malone. They were fantastic.

out of the songs you've posted so far I've only listened to afflecks palace.. mainly cos the title drew me in (student in manc from 2000--05) ** love it. will listen to the rest later or tomorrow on that basis for sure
That’s what drew me in too (student in Manc 1985-92) - obvious Manc sound but pretty fresh too.

Give a listen to Jorja Smith, Lost & found album, includes ‘Blue Lights’ a haunting tune. Think Lauryn Hill/Amy Winehouse, great voice only 23.

Definitely fresh! The Gao Express have a different sound but still a manc sound... really like it. Gotta bail for the night but will be picking up on the rest of your recommendations (and everyone elses) tomorrow! Feel it'd be rude of me to start a thread about new music and then not give at least each song one listen!

Try
Theory of a deadman
Canadians from just south of Vancouver

Early stuff is quite grungy new stuff like Wake up call is more poppy.. But I love em

Finding that new BMTH song catchy... bit of a modern attempt at sticking it to the establishment.... oh and a pleasant ending 🥰
WARNING: It might be a bit heavy for some of you lot...

For those indie kids of a certain age, Doves have a new album out and based on my first few listens it is brilliant 👌
Damn, forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder, just been online and ordered it. From an independent record store of course 👍

Love Doves, fantastic band but disappointed that means I’m now of a certain age 😂

Just given them a quick listen and I love their sound, energy and attitude, your niece is very talented! A couple of tracks sounded familiar and I listen to 6Music a lot so just googled it and I see Steve Lamacq has played them which is where I’ll have heard them and is the ultimate accolade in my eyes.

Definitely a band I’d go to see post-lockdown 👍

Saw these a few years ago at Lancaster music festival, they were then called Ufly, in the Wagon & Horses it was packed & they were brilliant, they did an acoustic set in the John of Gaunt last year & judging by the fact we walked in with them had just arrived having driven from Poznan in Poland, again they were fantastic.
