I was forced to have a 'virginity test' - and it's destroyed my life

Zara, not her real name, says her "whole world broke down" when she was forced by her family to have a 'virginity test'.

If we are so against cultural traditions that demean, abuse and intimidate women why the hell do we allow such shockingly invasive and intrusive procedures to be carried out legally, by the medical profession, in this county?
It’s unethical and is sexual assault by default 😡
 
It's horrendous and needs to be banned, but it won't stop the 'clinics', they'll just go even further black market. It's not the 'medical profession', just some shady 'doctors' making a quick buck.
 
Anyone imagine getting their daughter in ? No me neither 🤮
 
It’s disgraceful.
It’s probably not accepted by our medical profession as a rule. But the fact it gets thrown out as a crime makes it legally acceptable and that’s a disgrace.
A man or woman can now get charges for controlling coercion but not controlling coercion leading to actual sexual assault like this 😡
 
As I've said, too many people more concerned with the wrongs of the past instead of concentrating on the wrongs of the present.
 
Disgusting. It's down to lack of education, unfortunately our system spews out dimwitted morons so its unlikely to change this millennia.
 
Any doctor carrying out such a procedure should be in jail, not just struck off, any company assets should be seized and put into an independent fund to pay compensation to victims. Parents or family members making the appointment and contracts for these practices should also be dealt with in the strongest legal terms possible.

Exactly. I have a dim view of religion. I appreciate it gives many people world wide hope and a sense of belonging, but when it is used as the reason to coerce or abuse others then it’s got to go fro me.

Whether it is Israel abusing Palestinians, China abusing its Muslim communities or the Taliban treating women like slaves the central premise is religion and control.
Christianity is hardly a bastion of virtue either. It’s list of abuse is horrific

i think the family and the dr should be given a rectal examination using pineapple 🍍🍍🍍insertion to test them for pain threshold
 
Perhaps this should make me even more angry, but it doesn’t. Social conditioning?

‘A tube is inserted into the womb through the cervix (the opening to the womb from the vagina), and the pregnancy is removed using suction. The doctor may need to use special instruments to help remove the pregnancy’

From the NHS website - note that they can’t even bring themselves to call it a foetus

The two things are not even comparable Recidivist…

Whatever you might think about abortion (and I am totally in the fence in that debate) it is a complex subject that seeks to accommodate competing human harms / interests.

Not only that, but we have arrived at what we believe to be a consensus through engaging in discourse, political debate and a genuine attempt to make an ethical choice.

You contrast that with a situation which at its core assumes the rights of a male are paramount and his indiscretions not to be questioned, whilst at the same time legitimising abuse of women.

And let’s face it… The subjugation of women is what pretty much all major religions are about in any case…

It's only as complex as you want to make it. There may be valid reasons for abortion but abortion as a form of contraception or wrong sex or a change of mind should be wrong in anybody's book.
