OT - The greatest cover version ever?

Lost in Music- The Fall (Sister Sledge)

Ghost in my House- The Fall (R Deane Taylor)

What- Softcell (?)

Sorrow- Bowie (?)
What was originally sung by Melinda Marx (can't say I've ever heard it) and then covered by Judy Street. Got to say I prefer the Judy Street version to the Soft Cellone.

’I heard it through the grapevine’ Marvin Gaye. Sublime.
‘ I can’t stand up for falling down’ Elvis Costello grabbed Sam & Dave’s ballad by the throat and shook the fuck out of it to leave you exhausted!
‘All along the watchtower’ Jimi Hendrix, still wow’s me after all these years.

I put a spell on you . Originally written by "screamin" J Hawkins in 1956 , brilliantly regurgitated by Audience on their superb lp House on the hill from 1971.
Anyone else heard of them ? A class act.

I really enjoy these threads as I wasn't and still aren't particularly into music so have no idea about the heritage of any particular song

If I like a tune, I like it - but most of the time I don't have a clue who the artist is etc. I'm rubbish in the music round at a quiz!!

So to know that there are two versions of Video Killed the Radio Star is a revelation - it's also incredible how a few tweaks to it made one a smash hit whilst the other is only talked about on an obscure football message board!

Springsteen’s live cover of ‘I Hung My Head’ Takes it to another level. Or his cover of Wizz Jones’s ‘When I Leave Berlin’ is pretty special too.

* Memory duly jogged *

As is his live cover of Tom Waits' "Jersey Girl" (with additional verse, approved by TW).

Frente - Bizarre love triangle

Everything that Nouvelle Vague do
Kevin Rowland - My beauty . . whole album

May have already been mentioned but my personal favourite is 'Live and Let Die' by Guns N Roses, so much better than that by McCartney IMO.

California Dreaming - Mamas and Papas ( cover of original by Barry McGuire)
Eve of Destruction - Barry Mcguire ( original by The Turtles).
