OT: What is your Indian order?

If you’ve never tried it, go for a Saag dish which is based on spinach. Works really well as an Indian (add meat to your taste - personally I like the Chicken) meal.
Different strengths but normally medium.

I was introduced about 20 years ago when I was travelling and always a nice option rather than my standard Madras

Start with a mixed kebab and chicken chat followed by Garlic chilli chicken Tika, pilau rice, chapatis. All washed down with several ice cold beers. Absolutely magnificent.

Never really had an Indian meal that I’ve thought was amazing. I’ve tried different places and different dishes, but nothings overwhelmed me to the point where I’m excited to have it again.

Occasionally go to the Buraq near Kirkham as it’s practically across the road from my house, it’s ok but give me a decent Chinese any day of the week.

Indian food in the UK is very different to proper Indian food you get in India or Asia.

Living in Asia I have had the opportunity to try some amazing home cooked Indian dishes.

Some of the main differences are….

Vindaloo is not that spicy here.

Madras doesn’t exist - it was invented in the UK (found that out when I tried to get one in Madras - now Chennai - in India. They laughed at me and then cooked the most amazing thing I had ever tasted 😎

Rogan Josh ONLY comes with Lamb.

Chicken Tikka Masala - invented in the UK as many of your goto curries were.

Generally food is not as spicy but more rich in flavour here. It’s generally spiced up for the UK market.

That said, on occasion I could kill for an English cooked Chicken Madras 😂

Also, some of the best and most tastiest dishes I have ever tried are Indian

Although I do prefer Sri Lankan when I get the chance 👍

You may also be surprised to know many Indians / Asians cannot take spice and much prefer non spicy flavoursome dishes.

I went to a Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong in 96 with a local. The place was packed with Chinese I was the only westerner in there, sat there rubbing my hands thinking about chicken fries rice and chicken with black bean sauce. Out came mini dish after mini dish of the most tasteless bland stuff I've ever eaten, then came a plate of chicken claws.🤢
I'll repeat the Indian and Chinese food served over here isn't remotely authentic, it's slop with a load of sauce, made for the western palate.

That’s a real shame as I have had some incredible food in HK.

Where you at a Dim Sum restaurant by any chance?

Cherokee
Apache
Pawnee
Arapaho

..but I think you’ll find they should be referred to as indigenous peoples of America now…

My Uncle is a toy designer so of course the companies he's worked for over the years does lots of business in China/Hong Kong.

He shares similar stories of wild experiences in restaurants over there, both in the dishes served and just general culture/etiquette in restaurants - vastly different to what we're used to here.

Chicken Tikka Pathia, great tasting dish, hot and sour. Chicken Methi is a rare and wonderful dish, not spicy, just a great taste.

For those not liking heat, there are plenty of great dishes. Chicken Tikka Chaat as a starter or main is so tasty, with a Puri bread.

Well, this is a recent Cricket ODI batting order:

Shikhar Dhawan(c)
Prithvi Shaw
Ishan Kishan(wk)
Manish Pandey
Suryakumar Yadav
Hardik Pandya
Krunal Pandya
Deepak Chahar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Yuzvendra Chahal
Kuldeep Yadav

Dim Sum is part of my regular diet nowadays. Very rarely do Western Chinese food. There are good Dim Sum restaurants in Manchester and Liverpool. The ones in smaller towns tend to only do a sub-set of Dim Sum dishes.

Talking of Asian food, the best Japanese restaurant we have found in the North West is in Leigh of all places. A real hidden gem. Amazing food with items on the menu you usually only find in Japan and it's not as expensive as most Japanese restaurants that don't have as much variety.

I love good Dim Sum and you can’t beat a bit of Japanese Yakitori 👍

Pre radiation damage to my mouth would be the obligatory Pompadoms, Liver Vindaloo and a Nan bread.
Heinz tomato ketchup is too peppery now 😒

Love the starters like Onion Bhaji, and Shami Kebab, plus the medium mains like Lamb Sag(Spinach) or Dupiaza(Onion).....and the piece de resistance is Tarka Dall which is a side dish(Lentils).
Remember TARKA DAL(spelling varies but thery`ll know)!!!

Chicken jalfrezi with a few extra chillies thrown in
Plain pilau/boiled rice
Garlic naan

My daughter sent me some naga jolokia (ghost) chiilies from Camden market when she lived here. Started off with the tiniest piece and built up tolerance from there

I use the windward hot chilli sauce (from home bargains) like tomato ketchup on almost anything. Nice and warm with not an overpowering taste of vinegar 😍

Sorry to break it to you folks. Indian's and Chinese people don't eat the gash that's served up to you
Not true! I lived in Hong Kong for 5 years and can assure you the food served in Lou Shang (St Annes) is a good as anything I had in my 5 years. What you don’t get for the authentic experience though is the fish lip soup, deep fired chicken feet and the offal they serve up in HK/China.

Not a fan of curries so hot that you put toilet rolls in the freezer. Love curry

my weapon of choice

Chicken chat starter
lamb balti main
Pilau rice
Garlic naan
Side of saag aloo

the deserts are rubbish

Think I'll be sampling a Dupiaza on my next Indian order then, looks delicious.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll probably come back and sample some more of everything that's been put forward at a later Indian order!
