Our full backs

I think it is a fair point that JG and DT are fit and full of effort but perhaps a touch lacking in the defensive qualities both tending to be a bit reckless. Anyone think both or either could hack it in a wing-back/midfield role ? I do like Husband's experience/strength at left back and we have Lyons coming in the new year.

We aren't scoring goals and we aren't conceding loads. We would be 0 goals conceded in the last two if DT hadn't of taken the James Beattie course of putting strikers through 1v1 against the keeper.

Gabriel yes, Thompson apparently played w/b for Ipswich and didn't impress so probably no.

Unfortunately modern fullbacks are expected to play more narrow and be nearer to their centre half
They don't mark wingers, but close them down when they have the ball
This gives the winger the advantage of time and space and makes the fullback look out of position
I think the thinking behind wingbacks is when defending the back five puts the wingbacks nearer the touchline and therefore winger
If we get Tharme or Casey back I think we could make a back 3 work

I think both are still finding their way against high end opposition. There are some tricky wide players in the is league. For me the first job of a full back is stopping crosses. Do that and you dry up the opportunities for your opponent. There is never as much room through the middle. I would alos be playing Hubby at the moment. As well as his all round abilities he's calming influence on the side. Who would have said that a year or so ago when he had that run of sendings off? He learned from that - experience can count.
