Owen Dale to Oxford?

👀 so I assume you all say he’s shit. Rare another club signs someone at the other club are devvo’d?!
He's not bad but as you'll see if he signs for you he's average for this league and if you go up he will get passed by. Plenty of huff and puff but no world beater.
That's why nobody is crying about it.

Honest opinion.

There weren’t any clamours for Dale to be starting in the past few weeks when Coulson played or when Lyons has played.
There has been more posts about Rob Apter needing to be played.

Think that says that as fans we think he’s ok but replaceable.
Why do you think there have been no calls for Dale to start? It's the stupid formation. He isn't a wing back and can't play anywhere else.

Dale is being forced out because of the formation.

For me, he's one of those annoying players, who you know possesses alot of ability, but doesn't show it with any sort of consistency. Maybe the Oxford system might suit him more, I don't know, but he doesn't really fit here with the way Critchley wants to play. He was on loan at Pompey last season, and I think their fans were divided about him as well. Good luck to him but not against us obviously.

For me he’s been key in two of our best performances of the season … Barnsley and Pompey away. Can cover the left back or in the inside forward-type position Dembele and Joseph have been taking up lately.

I like Dale and he has been good this year when he's played both wing back and inside striker. I think with Dale though whilst he has been good it's always with a tinge of but we need better. If he goes good luck to him and I think we have better in Lyons and Coulson but equally if he stays fair enough he can still contribute.

Strange one…. Out of contract at the season end. Would we offer him a new contract …. Prob not. So the balance of let him leave for free in June or get a few £ now ? (It isn’t going to be much - £50-100k).
Selling to a promotion rival is a risky one. Can you add clauses in to say can’t play against us in the league (& play offs?) ? - maybe you can if it’s a loan deal ?

As a player, Owen Dale is abit marmite. Technically good & skilful but slow. On the short side physically. Wasted at wing back.

Good luck if he goes but question the rationale of going to a promotion rival …..

Formation is an irrelevant argument as it is the formation we have chosen to play. With a flat back 4, Coulson would not be first choice as it would be Hubby - although I get your point.

Dale was my player that I said at the start of the season that I was unsure of. I respect the hard work he put in at the gym (I’ve seen him improve his shoulder pressing!) and he’s looked fitter and more determined this season. He’s flashed in some great moments and I think he’s one of our better technical players too.

However in a world where you don’t have the luxury of players sitting around doing nothing and not getting game time I’m ok with him leaving. Critch is now wondering how to juggle 4 fit strikers plus Bees (assuming Rhodes ribs are ok) 4 wing backs if you class CJ in there, and 4 central midfielders.

We’ve got 5 centre backs and 2 keepers.
That’s if we don’t sign anymore players.

Dale seems to me to be one of those players who get clamoured for when he's not playing and then when he does, it's all a bit of a let down.
He's OK, but in my opinion, nothing out of the ordinary, I'd much rather be keeping Lyons and Gabriel. If he's not going to feature, we may as well move him on.
He wasn’t a let down at Portmouth. And the games before. He got randomly dropped after a purple patch of form for Lyons.

Critchleys selections this season have been baffling. Currently seeing it with Gabriel who plays at a standard miles above League One every time he plays.

He's a squad player for us and nothing more. Can be very good on his day, but then can go missing as well. Never been able to get a run together with us as we've had better in the squad so he's mainly been used in the pizza cup. As long as we have a replacement lined up, then I'm not too fussed he's leaving. Seems like a good lad though both on and off the pitch and always puts in effort.
It seems everyone’s a squad player here!

Absolutely agree.
I put a thread on a while back about formation obsession. Numbers are irrelevant its positions on the pitch that count. As a simple example when we attack down the right the RCB plays effectively as a RB and the RWB as a RW, they even overlap, so then are we 4-4-2 for a few minutes?
The other 2 CBs move across the pitch and so on.
It's a team game and all 11 players are expected to contribute.

You can’t include a clause if it’s a permanent move

Spot on about Gabriel, one of our genuine quality players, he'd be the first name on my team sheet, he's streets ahead of CJ in that position.

Can't say I'd be delighted about Dale going to Oxford but if we're not going to play him, why keep him. I just hope we replace him with better.

Looked better as a wing back but he’s not the answer there, attacking mid he’s struggling to get a game, if him going gets us a star midfielder in then it’s good business.

Gabriel is worrying me, is he trying to force a move, Critch hugged everyone last night and walked past Jordan, we will see Saturday as if he is obviously over the injury now, if he doesn’t start I fear he will be leaving. Looks our best player.

If we lose Dougall, Dale, and Gabriel in this window then I think it’s a shocking bit of business on behalf of the club.

We’d struggle to bring in 3 players of such quality in my opinion and replacing with loans is simply not the answer.

I sometimes wonder if this club actually wants promotion. 🤷‍♂️
It's good business if all three are/were on Championship wages.

It’s only good business if like I said we replace them with 3 equally as good players.

If it’s all to do with a cost cutting exercise then wave goodbye to what little hope we have of a top 6 finish.

‘In my opinion’ before it upsets anyone.

It's over complicated bollocks is what it is hence our lowly 8th position.

My understanding is that he signed a 2 yr contract in Jan 2022 and there is an option to extend 1 year.

Think he hasnt been well treated this season and has something to offer. Difficult for him as wing back. I remember he had a good game away at Oxford but let the Oxford scorer get behind him for a cross, but not a defender. Seemed to be selected less after that.

Wouldn't want to lose Jordy G. The other 2....Well, if you want promotion you need better.

Owen wants what every footballer wants and that's regular games. If he's not going to get it at Blackpool & we can get money for him, Oxford would be a good move for him.
Owen lives in Warrington, but so did his mate Jordan Thorniley when he signed for Oxford, so he's got a good advisor & they'll be able to partner up again.
It's also a good opportunity for Owen & Jess to start a new chapter after their tragic event late last year.
If he goes - it's "thanks & good luck Dale" from me.

Dale has had a really tough year and has at times from the bench provided a spark and a determination when there was none. Coulson seems to be the preferred option though and we have Lyons and Gabs too (who I think can play either side?).

I don't think we need another LWB/LM to replace him but we still need a midfielder so hopefully it's clearing up wage bill to bring someone in. Moxon, Byers, whoever.

Ah ok. Does he normally play from the left or right chaps?
Can play either wing and has played off the striker at times.

He can beat his man and decent on both feet, but end product is a massive issue. This was highlighted by Pompey fans last season too.

A decent mid table League 1 player but absolutely nowhere near Championship level, if that's where your ambitions are.
