Owen Dale

He definitely has ability, even though I think he only scored 2 goals for us, they might rank amongst 2 of the best goals I've ever seen a Blackpool player score (the barnsley away goal was sublime), problem is he didn't do much else.

There's more point to having Dale than there is just having Poveda sitting games out but preseason it looked as if Appleton couldn't work out what to do with him and concluded he didn't really fit anywhere.

He definitely needed a loan move after last season, as Judd did the last year too.
Thorniley really benefited from his time at Oxford and looks a champ Centre back.

Dale needs a relatively free role as he doesn’t track back well. With one holding midfielder at present he would leave us exposed (like Theo does and Bowler did) so Jerry and Shayne do the back tracking.
With Bridcutt back in the team along with Kenny then you can consider Dale in the wide attacking role or even that number 8 role (although competing with Patino, Wright and Carey if Brid back in).

Glad the loan is working for him. At worst he might be one we can sell on and reinvest?

I watched last nights game , Dale was playing as a winger and he did plenty of tracking back ! If he comes back to us in January he could well fit in the system at the right of the front 3.

Yep would do OK in a front 3 just didn't really suit the negative 2 banks of 4 Critch ball

Sounds good fb. 👍
Must be doing him a lot of good this loan

He was a decent player at Crewe too in L1 is that his level or is the championship too big a step up for him?🤔
He is relatively young and a lot to develop. Critchley saw a lot in him but his limited opportunities last season often meant he had a role that he did not seem very well equipped to do. Would like to see him in a more progressive role.

I feel like Dale with confidence and doing his thing is a vaguely Jerry Yates-esque vibe. He's got that swagger.

There's certainly more long term prospect of building a fluent side with Dale in it than with some of the more headless players or those who don't really have the touch.

There are definitely worse ideas than bringing a player back who is in form, playing regular football and doesn't seem stuck in a loop of injuries at the moment.

Played well at Barnsley can’t remember much else
Not sure he’s what we need.
His stats are ok with 1 goal and four assists from the equivalent of 10 league one games (the much maligned CJ Hamilton has 1 goal and 2 assists from 5 Championship games) however the general consensus from Pompey is whilst he’s been pretty good he’s not been exceptional.
Sell him and reinvest the proceeds.

I think he's a good player and agree he'd be better in an attacking three. I'm not convinced he's what we need right now though, we've got a little tricky player in Poveda already warming the bench. Good to see he's doing well at Pompey though.

I watched him play for Pompey at Forest Green a few weeks ago and he certainly stood out. He never stopped running, his work rate was exceptional, and he often chased a lost cause and made something from it. IMO he’s too good for Lg1 although Pompey fans seem to have taken him onboard. I’m surprised that they haven’t made an offer for him on a permanent basis.

Can we see Poveda being here beyond January?

Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley hopes Blackpool opt against recalling Owen Dale from his loan spell at Fratton Park, but accepts that it's a possibility.

The 24-year-old is down to spend the full season with the League One club, having scored one goal and assisted four in his 15 league appearances to date. January will not be far away once Championship action returns in December and Blackpool will be desperate to climb out of the bottom three, with Michael Appleton's side in 23rd spot.

Taking that into account, along with both Pompey and Dale's decent form in 2022/23, Cowley knows that the Seasiders must be considering bringing their player back to Bloomfield Road.

"I think these things are always possible," said Cowley. "We hope not because we’ve enjoyed Owen being with us, I know he has loved being here, he’s really enjoying living on the south coast. He’s fallen in love with Fratton Park and certainly the supporters. There is a unique relationship isn’t there?

"They really love his industry and his tenacity. We hope he won’t be recalled, we’ll have to wait and see – there’s a long way until January. This is always the case with loans, there tends to be a window of opportunity for the parent club to be able to recall the player, often these recalls can be both ways.
