Given some of the performances he put in in the Championship and on the back of a good season long loan with Portsmouth I’m hoping we’ll see him thrive this season under Critchley.

I’d also not be disappointed if Kirk were to return tbh. He looked ok in the Championship and in League 1 with the right manager and team he could be an asset too.

I don't think either are good enough to maintain a top six place, never mind automatic, which should be the aim.

Well it doesn't look like Portsmouth are interested until he "becomes available on a free transfer" in 2024.
Are Portsmouth under a transfer embargo, or are they just unable to afford?

Iirc, I read recently that Portsmouth fans felt he was good in patches but fell over a lot.
Doesnt look like they will be putting in an offer anyway.

Wizaard makes a good point, Dale made 50 appearances in a side which finished 7 points from the playoffs

As for CK, his set piece delivery was good, but he lacked pace for a winger.

I read somewhere that one of their strikers said Dale would be a really good player if he could find the final ball.

Not for me.

Surely we signed him up for more than a 2 and a bit years.

Based on the number of appearances he made and held down a first team role at Portsmouth he deserves a chance. Critchley signed him after all.

Id agree with you based on Owen Dales performances for us but he was in the Pompey side on a regular basis.
That said, there was a lot of conjecture regarding his performances.

The jury is definitely out on this one.

Is Kirk actually our player?

Kirk is a Charlton player

You need to raise your standards dramatically, neither are good enough for our squad, hopefully Pompey will want to buy Dale and Kirk was really bog average.

We’re a League 1 team now. Critchley thought them good enough for the Championship. Dale had a good season last year too. I’m not sure what sort of player you’re expecting us to sign but I think I’m being realistic and you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. That’s not to say I don’t expect or think we need reinforcement aside from what I’ve mentioned already. But when it comes in it needs to be sensible and it needs to suit the tactics and the overall plan - which of course Dale and Kirk quite likely do.

Unfortunately we seem to already have or be linked with a good few players that fit this profile. We are NOWHERE NEAR good enough for a realistic promotion push next year and some of our fans are totally deluded thinking we will bounce straight back with the current squad. These next 6 weeks or so are absolutely crucial and I am beginning to wonder if we will sign any real quality. Jerry will no doubt leave and we need credible replacements for him and Madine ...Lavery may be ok next to a good striker but I have serious doubts about Beesley and Holmes.

We’ll sign 10 players before the window shuts

Dale never really got a proper chance with us tbh…. He was certainly good enough, but probably not good enough to hold down a regular place at the expense of someone else….

At L1 level he’ll be a quality player for us imho.

He'd have got more of a chance if he actually played in his position. He started out wide in one game and then just drifted inside to hold hands with someone in the middle. I think it might have been Dougall that picked the ball up and was looking for Dale out wide straight away and he was hopelessly out of position. Dougall I think got caught in possession.

The fact we renegotiated the fee and he went on loan says loads about his chances at the time. He wasn't good enough.

Will he be now? He'll get pre-season and take it from there.

So you decided to write him off on the basis of a 30 second spell in one of his few games?…

Seems a bit unfair!

What about the game vs QPR?

So you think, on the basis of one game, he’s the answer to our prayers. Two diametrically opposed opinions. You pays your money, you takes your choice.

No!!

I think on the basis of…

1. Being Crewe’s Player of the Season prior to signing for us.
2. Winning a L1 Player of the Month Award.
3. An excellent Season with Portsmouth FC.
4. Some very promising games in the Championship for us

And …

5.. Headlines like THESE

That, he is likely to be (and in fact already is) a top class L1 Player.

If, as the Pompey manager said, he could cross the ball and score a few goals he would be a great player. So would I, unfortunately neither of us can so we’re not.

He featured in 50 games for Pompey last season..The Manager couldn’t praise him highly enough and the fans loved him.

You’re entitled to your opinion..

I was just correcting your ill informed and presumptuous misrepresentation of my opinion. 👍

He sets himself very low standards and unfortunately doesn’t live up to them.

Dale has had a full season at Portsmouth (50 games), this will have done him a lot of good, he will have learnt how to play in a disciplined system. Critchley now will assess him and decide where he can play him most effectively or transfer him, this also applies to Casey & Tharme & where they are in there progress as professional footballers, can they step forward and apply themselves ?. People on here write players off too soon. Watching players every day in training etc coaches see a lot more than what is said on this forum. Decisions will have to be made. I hope the 3 all do well and progress. I think the squad they have now is better to build on than the last time we played in this division.

Who they bring in to bolster this group is going to be crucial as most of us know !

QPR?? He came on as sub with a 'go and do what you can son' message. No discipline needed.
I was just wondering why you picked one particular (and extremely short) negative, rather than a slightly longer positive, on which to form your overall opinion?

Anyway… Never mind… You’ve obviously made your mind up.. The arms are folded, you’re digging in… He’s shit and now bodies going to tell you otherwise 👍👍😉😂

Sounds like we should be pairing him up with Thompson. Might be so far out of position that one of his passes might actually find him 😂

It’s not pedantry when you’re right, which you are. But let’s not let facts get in the way of a good avftt discussion in which both sides are probably wrong.😁
In the interests of pedantry, I don't think it's being right or wrong that defines pedanticism but the fact that the pedant is correcting someone on a minor unimportant detail.

😂

ffs mate if you’re basing your aspirations on dale and kirk then they are not set very high 😭😭😭

That’s not at all what I said though.

I said I hope to see Dale thrive and I wouldn’t be disappointed if Kirk returned.

Both played a part in keeping us in the Championship comfortably.

Working with the management team that’s just returned.

Both decent in League 1.

It’s hardly saying that’s the limit of my aspirations.

Dale is proven to be a good player in League One and we’re a League One club.

He’d a be a squad player who could be a starter if he hit a run of form. I see him as the sort of player you could bring on if you’re dominating possession, pushing for a winner and need someone to make something happen. We’ll also get injuries and suspensions along the way.

He’s a good footballer at League One level and he’s ours, I don’t see the need to be so dismissive.

Why don't we go with our own Rob Apter on the wing either from the start or off the bench.
He's been out on loan at proper clubs in tough leagues and set the bar high with his displays.
Let's get a chant ready for him because he looks the business.
