lovely goal and nice to see him delivering. funny thing was, he noted in the preview that he wanted to up his assists and goals. hope he can keep it going. he seems like a decent lad and has clearly had some tragic stuff to deal with off the pitch.

if you watch the extended highlights, when critch is doing the fist pump, you can see owen going over to say hello to a young pompey fan and have his picture taken. the kid looked well chuffed. that was a nice touch but not as good as the finish for his goal. nice one owen. 👍🍊

Yes, he's got some work to do on his defending against crosses but his attacking and midfield support play is a real asset. Well worth his place and will continue to get better. As you say, also seems a good lad.

yep, i think he touched on his defensive duties too in that preview and talked about improving his all-round game more generally. he's pretty eloquent it seems and his willingness to learn and adapt, coupled with his attitude, is v positive at the mo. long may it continue 'cos there's a good pro in there, i think.

Yep he’s improved greatly. I was calling for Lyons to replace him , not so sure now . Both cracking little players .

We'll need them both 👍
Re Dale, has come on a lot, great goal on Sat. I would like to see him cross or pass with his left foot, when out wide, instead of slowing to put it on his right.

He is putting everything into it, maybe almost too much hence a couple of air shots. A fast improving player. He needs better support if he's to continue down the left though. Carey should be giving this but is too in and out still for me, needs to show a bit more bottle under pressure.

Personally I dont rate him. Certainly not as a winger or wingback.
Against Portsmouth Carey was berating him for not being in a position to accept a pass. He was stood behind the defender. It was basic football. If he had of got the ball he would simply have turned back and passed it backwards. I believe we need another attacking winger. Someone like Bowler. When we had CJ on one wing and Bowler on the other they simply struggled to double mark them both giving them more freedom.
Someone different or even Apter who is not afraid to take people on.

Just me but I prefer my full backs to be more Andy Wilkinson than Owen Dale.
Owen Dale is too right footed. Going down the left wing he stops, passes or goes inside. We do not get behind defences enough with Dale on the left. I agree we need more forward pressure going down that side, with crosses coming in for the strikers.

The thing that I noticed yesterday is how he gets frustrated with himself and that says he both cares but also is striving to be better.
26 on January 1st and so knows he should be coming in to his prime - you forget he was bobbing around the non league for the first few years of his career and has made massive strides these last two seasons.

I quite like Owen Dale tbf and thought he had a very good second half yesterday playing in a 3 up top when Joseph came on. I think we need to remember that he isnt a wing back so he is always going to be slightly flawed when he plays in that position.
Going forward Gabriel will be a our right wing back lets be honest, he is clearly our best wing back. I think that would mean Critch probably shifting CJ out to the left even though id still prefer Lyons. Dale would then be able to move a bit further forward and fight for one of the front 3 positions which i think would suit him better.

I have been one of Dale’s biggest critics because he was lazy and had an attitude problem. Since his return from Pompey I have come to 2 conclusions. 1. He has learned a great deal during his loan and is a much better player. 2. He is definitely out of his depth in the Championship. League 1 is his level and he will have a good career at this level and if we stay in this league I hope we keep him.

Gabriel is by far our best full back, I agree. He is one of a few in the squad that would succeed in The Championship. Let’s hope he stays fit for rest of season.

Owen Dale would be a bigger asset playing a formation. It's unfair on Dale (and CJ) playing them as wing backs. They have too much to think about both in defence and attack. Gabriel and CJ would be great on the wings and Husband/Dale wouldn't be too shabby on the other wing. Again it comes back to this over complicated bollocks of a formation.
