Owen Moffat

I'm baffled by this set up where we sign all these 20 year olds that never seem to even get anywhere near the first team.
Obviously you bring in players like Moffat hoping they will be future 1st teamers. Moffat was just a gamble that didn't pay off. Nobody gets it right all of the time. It doesn't mean there isn't a lot of work that needs to be done to link our Academy to our 1st team because it must be a bit disappointing for our young pro's constantly seeing the Club developing young pro's from elsewhere.
Critch has even said he only wants to bring in loan players that can have an immediate impact on the 1st team. Time will tell if this is true with Weir and Baggot (possibly). I think he might be speaking with a forked tongue.

That entire transfer window was strange. Owen Moffat, Zak Emmerson and Callum Wright. All young players that we paid a transfer fee for, and they have had a handful of first team appearances between them.

It would be nice to get it right once though

Dunfermline are a good club with a decent coach/manager, the Scottish Championship might not be the greatest quality but it’s a very competitive league with loads of old pros and up and coming talent. Make or break season for the lad, hopefully be the making of him and he comes back having developed playing first team competitive football and ready to kick on in our first team squad

He came on as second half sub on Saturday and did really well. He crossed for their equaliser and after a good dribble had a shot saved by their goalie. He looked a tricky little player.

Moffat, 21, had clubs interested in him before eventually deciding on a switch to Dunfermline Athletic on deadline day.

He has told their club website: “Towards the end of last season, I didn’t really get many minutes with the first team, many opportunities. I thought about Dunfermline, because of my friends here – Ewan Otoo and Ben Summers. Obviously, Ben signed later on, but Ewan was always telling me about how big the club was, how good it was, and since I’ve come in, I’ve loved it.”

He added: “I did have other options. I was in training with Hamilton for a week, and I’d played a game with them, but I knew there was a possibility of Dunfermline being interested. It progressed on that Dunfermline wanted me to come in and train. I’d spoken to Hamilton and told them that.

“They were aware of that before I went there that Dunfermline were interested. Then I came here, trained, and as soon as I came here, I wanted to get it done because I loved it. I really enjoyed it since the moment I stepped in. The boys have been really nice with me.”
