Anyone remember we were in for him over Summer ...

Doesn't seem we missed out on much ..

"agree it’s time for Moxon to have a ‘rest’

I wonder if their fans still rate him at £750,000 now they have seen him up against better players this season.
It's not quite happened for Moxon this year, but he's being judged far more harshly than others. The feeling is that he's had his head turned, and that his performances have suffered - his set piece delivery being an example of this. He was deadly last season, but so often this season his corners are failing to clear the first man. He's also suffering from a lack of nous amongst our forwards - last season he had the runs of Kristian Dennis to pick out, whilst this season there is very little for him to hit up front.

The harsh realities of our situation mean that dropping him is not really an option. Callum Guy (by far our best player this season) is out for the rest of the season, and we are short in midfield.

Callum Guy, there’s a blast from the Grayson past

The thing is, each step up in class means quicker players, faster thinkers, stronger players, taller players, more skillful players etc. etc. He might be playing to a similar personal standard this season as last season but is just up against better players. That's why it's hard to command such high fees for a player who had only played League Two and lower before the start of this season.

I think this is the most likely reason for his poor form.
From his perspective he probably should have pushed harder for Carlisle to let him go because I don’t think he will be having the same sort of offers come January or the summer.

The step up is a factor, of course. The gulf in class between leagues 1 and 2 seems to have grown during our decade in the bottom tier, and we’ve struggled to adapt. In Moxon’s case, he’s unfortunately playing in a side where 4 or 5 of those starting alongside him seem unable to hit the levels required on a consistent basis, and he’s suffering as a result.

Our frustrations with him are (I think) the result of heightened expectations of him. Were a new signing in midfield putting in the performances that he has this season, I think they’d be viewed in a different light. But as our ‘talisman’, he’s expected to pick the lock to Fort Knox.

Anyhow, Simmo has confirmed today that our first January signing has agreed a deal, and also confirmed that we’re trying to do a deal for a striker who would be a club record signing, whilst playing down our hopes of that one actually happening. January may change things at the club, and Mox may suddenly find himself playing alongside higher quality teammates. That’s when we’ll find out just how good he can be at this level.

Either way, we can’t afford to let him go as it stands. Understand why he may look like a case of ‘much ado about nothing’ at the moment - but don’t write him off, whatever happens tomorrow.

It can take some players a season or two at a higher level to adjust. If they are still young enough to have learning time on their hands and have all the natural attributes needed at the higher level then they can kick on after a delayed reaction. We had that with players like Keith Southern and Gary Taylor-Fletcher who had played lower league football, looked a bit iffy each time we got promoted but managed to improve over time, all the way to the Premier League.
