Oxford arrogance

What's this born out of? Presumably their great start to the season - because they've been bang average for years. Seen very few home fans admit that they were battered the entire second half yesterday - also Manning seems a good coach but is yet to achieve anything in his career and was sacked by MK Dons.

I suspect they'll be up there but we know from first hand experience they aren't great at getting over the line.

I haven't seen any disrespectful comments from the Os, but they can't honestly deny that the last 20 minutes was one way traffic and that we were camped in their half. I'm not absolutely clear whether we were particularly good or they were particularly dodgy in the second half. The next few games will probably clarify the respective abilities of the two teams. What I am pleased about is that Oxford were at no stage as dominant as their league position suggested they should be.

From an Oxford blogger - (all comments I have seen about us are anything but disparaging) -

“League One promotion is attritional; the best sides we’ve seen in the division have a relentlessness about them – Rotherham in 2020, Blackpool in 2021, Plymouth last year. They don’t have big peaks and troughs; they keep going like a traction engine.

Before Blackpool, we’d won five league games in a row, nine in ten. That’s near enough perfection. As frustrating as a last-minute equaliser always is, in the wider scheme of things there has to be a lull, the key is to not let it become a crash.”

I think this puts into perspective what an excellent point that was yesterday - we reap the rewards further Tues and Sat v Cheltenham and P/boro

as i said on another thread, walking back to the car yesterday a lot of the natives seemed happy with a point except one that was blaming the ref??!

Have a look on their forum. They don't come across well at all. To be fair there have been a couple of Pool wind up posters but a majority of the Oxford posters seem like a bit of a classless bunch. Not all mind you but more than you'd expect.

Should add that the ones we met in person yesterday were all fine. Couldn't believe how many Americans were around Oxford and also at the game.

They’re completely delusional and seem to have a vendetta against us. One poster claiming we’re a higher end conference club? My god what does that make Oxford United then…

A good start to the season after an influx of cash doesn’t make you a big club. Nor does a new stadium guarantee a wave of new supporters. I’m not usually one to go after another fan base but they really are insufferable on their message board, and that’s coming from someone who’s read AVFTT for 13 years!!!

met some v decent and clued up fans after the game. consensus was it was a fair result - two decent sides capable of winning it. said we were the best side they've seen at their place so far, comfortably.

as an aside, also met a v pleasant oxford city fan - interesting to hear about them, albeit struggling, but punching up in the national league for the first time.

Just take a look at who they'd played at home before us. Absolutely no one who will be in the frame at the end of the season.

To be honest, it's all a bit meh in Oxford isn't it? You sit down to watch the game. You shut up. You accept what's happening.

Oxford are like the PNE of League One. No hope really for higher. Naff home support. Meh average functional side. They have a great start to the season and tail off. I can't see that side going up at all.

Not a good thread. Oxford is home to very different socio-economic groups. It has its industrial side in Cowley, it has its clerical and lower middle class areas and it has its intellectual centre, occupied by very intelligent and, yes, largely upper-middle class people. We had a wonderful weekend there. Learn to adapt to different types of people and you'll benefit.

Or spend some time in the city. It's good.

One comment on their forum described the game as ‘Blackpool’s cup final’. To balance that several other posters acknowledged our second half dominance and said we were deserving of a point.

The ones I saw had a pretty balanced view, said we deserved a point for our second half performance, said a point against Blackpool isn't bad cause they're a strong team etc.

Obviously forums are going to have the odd extreme partisan who are easy to dismiss because they've clearly had 1/10th of our success as a club both historically and in recent times.

Oxford has always been a s*** hole full of privileged self-entitled over educated middle class Twonks
Went last year, nice City. Ah the bourgeoisie, horrible class, having to pay 40% tax, when millionaires pay a huge 45%, or have offshore accounts and pay nothing. Idiot

Lol ok. Baseless given everything ive shared here regarding ownership n stadium plans, plus current form under new management.

Berate silly comments n then make similar flippant ones 👏🏼.

Got a bit lost after the game and had a good chat with some friendly Oxford fans, seemed like a good bunch. They’ve not had much to shout about over the past few years and didn’t come across as arrogant in the slightest.

I know some people think there’s a bit of needle between us but I can’t buy into that at all.

Blackpool's last cup final was after beating them in the semi final actually...

How is it baseless? I thought based on your start I’d be watching a better side and bar a few decent moves you didn’t impress at all and were pretty fortunate our manager brought one of our most talented footballers on too late.

Where am I wrong about your home support? Easily one of the worst I’ve witnessed in a long time. You are second?!

Your best player by some distance is your left back. The rest didn’t impress me that much at all after watching at the weekend. I don’t see you going up automatic and I really don’t see or understand why your fans have this arrogant attitude from. You’ve been a L1/L2 club my entire life. Including a stint in non league.

Oxford must be doing something right being second in the league but based on that second half showing, we had much more quality. They were chasing shadows and we should have won. Hopefully that bodes well but it goes back to my point that we concede too many sloppy goals especially recently.

Dear Oxford - oh those whispering spires gazing down on one of the UK‘s largest council estates - and the bus tour is to die for …

Blackbird Leys is Oxford's largest council estate, originally built to accommodate some 10,000 residents in about 2,800 dwellings; an estimated 13,464 people live in Blackbird Leys to-day, making it bigger than historic Oxfordshire market towns such as Henley, Thame, Wallingford and Wantage.
