Patino & Carey

Confused as to why we haven't won in 10 and he's tried basically nothing else in midfield. What has Kenny done?
We dont even play through the midfield, so their role is 80% defensive and neither of them is really a defensive player. Cary is fantastic as he gets into the box and supports the attack but he cant do that because hes playing too deep.

That midfield 3 away at Watford is never going to be strong enough. Can’t get the logic on it.

Hope this Treybull is the answer.

3 man midfield….. destroyer (ala southern), tidy up guy (ala Vaughan) creative (ala Charlie)

So IMO….

Trybull, Connolly, Stewart, Bridcutt or Kenny

Patino, Carey, Kenny

Poveda, Carey, other forward players potentially

Patino is not good enough. He’s been giving the ball away too easily recently and is lightweight , pushed off too easily.
He has a nice song though 🙄

With Poveda not available, he should have played Dougall, Carey and Patino today; the experiment with Rogers just didn't work at all. Has Rogers even ever played in that role before?

It's inexplicable. This is the Championship with millions at stake, not an academy game. You need nous and steel, not being sliced apart on the break game after game when we lose it on the breakdown to......... the opposition's midfield. He asks too much of them. As for launching the ball clean over their heads up to Gaz at every opportunity, why??

They don’t show for the ball. Well, not strictly true, they offer an option but in a not-so-convincing way. Patino does it every week. Half gets into space without ever really looking like he wants it rattled into him. Hence they go long.

It asks a lot of any young player, at any standard, to demand the ball and make things happen. But that is what is required if we want to get out of this fruitless back-to-front nonsense which has carried us to 0 league wins in 10.

Carey and Patino are both talented and may well both go on to have stellar careers, but in the hear and now, they aren’t offering what is needed to arrest this slide

I think it's just bizarre really that we have 2 good ball-playing midfielders and we bypass them by playing hoof ball to Madine.

If we're doing that then why not just play 2 defensive midfielders? There's literally no point in playing Patino and Carey.

To have someone like Dougall constantly on the bench when our midfield is so weak is actually ridiculous. OK at times he's been poor, but he's also been great, scored goals, made us hard to beat and been part of the side that deservedly won promotion and stayed up easily. He's been completely undervalued by some on here.

Got to agree with most of this. It was as clear as day that we were getting overrun (again) in midfield. I was sat next to a guy from St Albans (should have asked if he was a teacher) and we both commented on how many times their no.4 picked up the ball in the middle with acres of space. Patino is a skill player that needs a steady rock alonside that frees him up. Instead he gets hurried and loses the ball.

Yep a bizarre style of play, or lack of it considering thr selection.
