He's now finding out how tough life is as a footballer in the Championship. Sides are now targeting him and getting physical. His form has inevitably dropped but he looks to me like he's up for the challenge. He'd just a bit lightweight at the moment. Big second half of the season for him. Carey needs to toughen up too. So easily out-muscled.

Agree about opponents targeting him . But although his technical skills are obvious, he is very one paced, and it isn't quick .

It will all be good development experience for him. This league is more physical than the Prem and more gets unnoticed by the ref.
It should spur him on to think he needs to improve quick or next season he will be back in the Championship on loan again.

For me the big thing missing for him is Stewart, Bridcutt etc. Experienced midfield general to do the dirty stuff and let him play and be Charlie.
Kenny does a job at DM but not the same.

Yep, I think Connolly in midfield (when we get a match fit RB) would help. We've missed CC in that role, Bridcutt did a good job but he's another sick note sadly.

Charlie has had a couple of relatively poor games by his standards, but he's not getting the movement to play the ball up the wings or over the top in to space. That's why he suits CJ's strengths so much, and is partly why CJ and Poveda sometimes make the impact when they come on. Yesterday in the 1st half he played a ball in to space on our left, and nobody went for the ball because they were static or already tracking back. The ball harmlessly went out for a Cardiff goal kick. An excellent young player who has had a couple of off days, as has everyone else.

We’re asking a 19 year old kid to run & control our midfield when the reality is, he should have come into a quality established midfield to supplement and add some quality to what we had.

Far too much expectation and emphasis on him that highlights shocking recruitment in midfield.
Connolly will strengthen midfield, he is not averse to getting stuck in and will give those targetting Patino something to think about.
Agree that Charlie, Sonny and Callum Wright are a little lightweight at moment but all have ability. Get them on the weights.

I think it’s about getting the balance of the team right, then each player can concentrate on doing what they’re best at. We’ve not been able to do that due to the current no shows of our crocked DM’s. We really need to address this in January whatever it takes.

It's a tough league and why the over-use of young kids to develop their game only works every now and again.

Give the lad a break! He's a young player, playing his first season in adult football, in a team that's in a dogfight, trying to survive in a very tough league.
Our other midfielders aren't exactly pulling up the weeds are they?
We've lacking midfielders with muscle, energy & aggression (that was Argentina's big strength), if we had them, Carlie would have more time and space to do what he does best.
We need to support our young players, not pull them to pieces. It wasn't many games ago that Charlie was a hero, visiting the Armfield club with his dad, who praised our supporters & MA.
He'll soon come good again, providing MA allows him to.
Carey and Patino both need a bit of protection from a really nasty, very effective, ball wining midfielder, someone with a bit of nous and experience to help them along. You know, like the player we've needed since the start of the season
We've need tough midfielders, who does shithousery like Gaz /Keith Southern / Charlie - then our young loanees can do what they do best.
And you're correct - that's been since the start of the season!

more gets ignored by the refs, because they definitely see it

He had a shocker against Cardiff but I can't help but think Appleton and his tactics/formations aren't helping him. The sooner we can get the lad ahead of the other midfielders and closer to our attacking players the better. Will we revert back to 433 for Hull or actually play to our strengths. For me it would be Madine and Yates up front with CJ, Patino, Dougall and Poveda.

He needs to be further up the pitch where he can be really effective. He also needs to work in training on trying to improve his pace as he isn’t the quickest.

Him and Carey as our two central midfielders is a disaster waiting to happen! As mentioned previouslyhe needs an experience ball winner alongside him!

Part of the problem in the first half on Saturday was that we went back to having him as the deepest of the three midfielders. That places more expectations on him physically that he isn’t (yet) capable of fulfilling, and seems to knock his confidence. Same thing happened in a few games earlier in the season and it begs the question: why?
