Phillip Schofield gone

Nope, that was mooted, but subject to conjecture. Fellow journalists and the PA distanced themselves from their actions
But surely Holly jumped the queue as well?

It’s all very strange.
She did indeed Mex, but It’s obviously there’s been an underlying disdain against Schofield for a while. There’s been a lot of ‘celebrities’ suddenly come out against him.

I’m reading that Holly has decided to distance herself from him since the episode with his brother. It seems she didn’t want to get tarnished along with him and feels that she is now the more popular of the two and can go it alone.

Unfortunately she allowed herself to be associated with him for as long as it suited her career which kind of makes the timing of her dumping him a little bit self-serving and not necessarily moralistic.

I’ve been team Fern Britton and Amanda Holden on this all along, and well done Amanda for calling him out publicly more than once, as other celebrities seemed to fear his power.

That and the grooming stories makes me think there will be a lot more coming out now.

Apologies, I’ve been on leave this week and read too many of the red tops 😳

Well I’ve gone right off Holly then.

Ok with “whatever it is” so long as Philip progressed her career but has suddenly found she can do better without him. And discovered she has a moral compass after all.

Or alternatively has decided to drop her mate because “the optics” involving his brother are not good.

Either way it’s not a nice look.

My thoughts too Mex.

I’m not a fan of either of them.

There was a lot of negativity around him a few years back, then he suddenly announced he was gay. I remember being very suspicious of the timing of the announcement. Then of course everyone rallied round him and things settled down until recently.

Philip Schofield and more coming out. After his coming out. Who’d have thought? 🤣

My daughters can’t stand him cos there’s a ton of stuff on the internet about how he allegedly abused his power and groomed a young male worker and had a sexual relationship with him. That allegedly led to his stage managed announcement that he was gay.

I don’t know the truth but this could be itv’s saville. Where they turn a blind eye or actively protect a pervert. I hope this isn’t true but time will tell. Usually the truth follows when a bubble of invincibility bursts like this.

I think similarly on all counts Malced. He definitely appeared to be feared by others because of his media power. And he definitely seemed to abuse that power on some levels. Just how many levels and how far remains to be seen.

Apparently he’s got a new peak time series starting soon and will still present the Soap awards. I’d be amazed if ITV allowed these to continue if they had an inkling there was worse to come. Burying their heads in the sand surely isn’t an option. Time will tell.

He's rumoured to be paying 30k a month for a super injunction that prevents reporting on a 'friendship' with someone called Matthew McGeevy.
I don't think it's quite at Saville level in terms of abuse, corruption, enabling etc...but I'd put good money on some fairly distasteful truths coming to light in the next few months.

It will be interesting to see how much longer ITV are willing to fund the injunction. I imagine Phil is wealthy enough that he can also keep it up for a while even if “benched” by ITV and not paid quite the same salary.

Clearly an odious man, and the evidence suggests that he was in contact with McGeevy from 15 years old (some time ago, while married at the time).

I suspect when he topples it will be spectacular.

Well I’ve never heard of an injunction (super or otherwise) being conditional on regular monthly payments. If it’s granted by the court that’s it. It’s in place until it’s overturned by another court or on appeal.

Possibly someone has signed a NDA which provides for regular payments but again that’d be unusual. And I don’t see why that’d stop the press reporting the background story unless they are worried about being sued for defamation and don’t have evidence to “stand up” the story.

Social media speculation presented as fact?

Edit to add: I see the rumour is he’s paying a reputation management company for advice rather than as a condition of a super injunction.

A court can impose a time limit as to the validity of a super injunction. In fact, they usually do, so as to verify the ongoing situation, as an unlimited duration is seen as hard, secret censorship of the media.

The media/press is given the opportunity to challenge the injunction in court at each renewal the plaintiff applies for. I think that is the basis for Schofield’s/ITV’s alleged ongoing legal fees IF a super-injunction exists (we are not supposed to know as its existence would be a court-imposed secret in itself).

If that is the case, it is also suspected by some that may have played a part in letting Schofield go. Why should ITV continue to financially contribute deeply to an alleged ongoing personal situation that Schofield has got himself into? Except... that this alleged liaison happened in the workplace when both parties were ITV employees and ITV managers are fearful of the reputational damage to themselves.

One aspect is that they appear to have treated the individuals differently. It has been reported that the whole situation was triggered by a formal complaint made several years ago by another presenter about PS’s behaviour. One celebrity has been “protected” while the other non-famous person has been moved on - a large disparity in the power balance which does not look good in these days post Me-too. And yet... PS seems ostensibly to be accepted by ITV to continue as presenter of other ITV shows. Well, we will see about that.

And so it starts. And I don’t believe a word that he has revealed this now to protect his ‘friend.’ Somebody has him over a few barrels for sure.

He lied to his wife all those years. Was he truly sorry every morning when he woke up next to her? Who was he try to protect all that time. Himself. He’s incapable of thinking of anyone but himself and he’s only sorry he’s been caught out.
