Physical peaks

Did you or have you had a physical peak and do footballers never get better than when they are in their 20's?
I ask because I have really hit the gym in the last 12 months and I would say now at 46 that I have never been fitter, healthier, physique has never looked better and I can run further (not necessarily faster) than I ever have.
So is it a fallacy that your peak physical age is between 20-35?

I don't know. But I do know that I used to be able to climb into green waste Wheely bins and jump about to squash down the grass, leaves etc. Now I have to lift my legs high enough to get in as they seem to have stopped listening to me .
🥺 I reckon keep yourself swimming , running , fishing , cycling as long as you physically can because there may well be a decade or two when you wish you still could

In terms of cardio, definitely fittest in my teens. I remember having athletics in the afternoon and sport in the evening and being unphased.

I guess it depends at what point you take physical fitness seriously? You can be young and a slob or older and health / fitness conscious.

But I would say late 20's, early 30's you are at your peak. Definitely I was at my best in my early / mid 30's but come 40 the niggles, aches start and the desire / motivation starts becoming more of a challenge.

I was at my physical peak between 18 and 28. Played football on a Saturday and Sunday, played tennis and cricket, went running on my own, football training twice a week, then, in 1989 I discovered House Music all night long.
Luckily I am peaking again at 62….that’s what I’m telling Mrs Ska anyway 😎🇯🇲

I like to think I’m still fit now. I’ve built more strength but as you get older, you pick up more injuries by overdoing it.
I’m still nowhere near as fit as when I was in my 16-25 yrs. Used to do 3hrs of intensive sport, 6 days a week.
I can still look at some of the blokes on Gladiators and believe I can do better. 😁

Footie 3 times a week in 30's
10k runs, and fairly regularly doing 5k several times a, week.
Result knackered hips

16 to 23 my most fit and best mens footballing days, although I played until I was 45. Less 90 min games, but lots of 7 & 5 a side games from late 30's onwards.

I would say that some average person, ie not a child protege, who enjoyed physical sporting activities and carried that through their life would peak around 35-45.
If an average person ignored physical active life until they are 40+, then I expect they would achieve their physical prime within maybe 10yrs.
It’s a well known fact that, men in particular, will reduce their production of testosterone and other chemicals that supports active life from the age of 50
It’s all about human growth and decline, the older you get the less you are able to do.
This is why men are encouraged to use a gym, cycle, swim, get outside and take long walks. You will slow down the decline into your winter years…

I probably peaked around the 35-45 age.
I’m now banging on the door of 66yrs, I still take the long cycle rides, open water swims, I’m getting back to the mountains now after a knee replacement … one of the down sides of a life of activity, your knees and hips may wear out before you want them to 😂
Fortunately the NHS will fix you up, even though the Tory’s are dedicated to privatise it 😡

I was the gawky kid who was rubbish at most sports, except cross country. I have never gone out to exercise, but have always done a lot of walking, having dogs and keen on climbing hills helps, basic fitness is OK but you still need the mental drive to get you there, especially when scary.

Coming out of COVID, our company was having horrendous warehousing issues, and several of the larger stores like ourselves set up as small distribution hubs. Carry boxes upstairs, picking and scanning and taking back down and loading lorries. In my 60's and for the first time ever got a well muscled chest 😂
