Pilley Watch

Is your pi
So a guy in court today got 10yr and 8month for knocking down and killing a female who was a mum and a granny.
He was driving a high performance car whilst under the influence of cocaine. No licence and no insurance.
The judicial system is a ** joke.
Are you saying that this crime is worse than Pilleys premeditated and systematic destruction of many, many lives over a lengthy period of time?

What can be worth than death you clown. My sister in law was stabbed to death in 1984 by her husband so shut it

"What can be worse than death" is an oversimplification of the reality of judging and sentencing crimes.

Our judicial system has decided that Pilley's crimes deserve a longer sentence than that which you describe (presumably manslaughter) and with the facts as presented I agree.

I understand your point .

An additional factor to consider though is that that the driver admitted guilt and is entitled in law to a third discount in sentence .

The starting point in that case was set by the Judge at 17 year in accordance with the law and sentencing guidelines.

Pilley had a 6 month trial so was not entitled to the third off.

When you are dealing with lengthy periods of imprisonment a third off can make a massive difference.

The third off discount is nothing to do with judges. Its a law made in Parliament by people who are democratically elected by the population.

Preston is a local prison, I.e.primarily serves the courts. Once convicted usually moved within 6weeks freeing up space for the never ending conveyor belt.
I understand . I was just questioning whether the poster thought that Preston wasnt a suitable prison due to Mr Pilley's status.

Criminal Sentencing has to deal with a whole range of factors and ‘harm’ is only one. That said it is possible for a lesser harm to a lot of people to add up to a massive harm to one individual.

As I see it, one of the main issues that sentencing has to grapple with, when it comes to serious financial crime, is deterrence.

Unlike violent or sexual crime (where people are morally deterred) financial crimes and frauds tend to feel more morally acceptable and would likely see a massive increase, if the sentencing was too lenient.

Other factors will play a part too…

Was the crime the result of a ‘one off’ out of character moment of madness ?

Was there a guilty plea?

Was there an acknowledgment of the victim impact and genuine contrition?

What extent did the individual recognise the crime, conspire to cover it up, persist with it over time etc..

No! I believe he’s on a merry go round being moved about for his own safety

Up in Scotland last I heard.
Duff information from the worst ITK poster ever again. He’s not been anywhere near Scotland, he was moved straight from Preston to Wymott prison near Leyland 🙄

Correct Mosser, some people should ignore some bloke in the pub who's mentioned he spoke to someone who is married to a mate of a mate who's barber says Pilley is in Scotland. 🤔

Allegedly others on the jury accepted to bribe.

It certainly makes the guilty verdict unsafe.
It Means he’s talking bollocks, so scared he fled abroad, now back and grasses them up, they mustn’t be scary anymore? Pilley is guilty as charged, more believable if he’s was offered 20k to get him off. He was never going to be found innocent the evidence against him was damning

Yep probably which is why I said allegedly.
The guy will be in hot water if he’s lying. Judges hate this sort of thing.
