Pitch update

Which is what we can see in the picture.

We can see and know the bits we did, but the question was does that bit have to be done every season? Presume it'll have to be or the grass there won't be renewed like the rest?

It's greener and we can see the line, so must already be done? But how do they work in stitching with a pitch refresh each year?
Doesn't need to be renewed every season. When they strip the pitch off at the end of the season the Koro machine leaves the fibres in the ground 👍🏼

It's a fraise mower which is essentially hundreds of vertical blades that strip away the surface. The artificial fibres are stronger than the natural grass and are stitched into the ground so they stay in the surface.
Right, I want sure how the machine avoided them without lifting them out or damaging.

Not really up on my fraise mowing... but good to know.

I did think it would make them a bit pointless if it had to be redone each season.

Didn’t that get confirmed? Koko saved a couple of bob re moving it off site I recall? I am sure SS has said they’d have to spend a King’s ransom digging all the shite up.
An urban myth that Dave . Lee Charles did a piece with the groundsman a couple of years ago . There’s no debris under the pitch . Any problems the pitch had were simply down to poor maintenance not rubble !

For comparison, Rochdale doing their pitch top stripping and reseeding this weekend. Taking it down to the stitching. Relegated to Conference and skint, but have a stitched pitch.

"The reason it gets done is because every year we put sand, fertiliser, and organic matter on (the pitch) throughout the season," said Josh.

"We do a renovation every year to get all of that off.

"To start the top is taken off so we can get down to the stitching and so that we can get as many fibres stood up as we can. The surface is then nice and clean.

"It’s essential that we get the top layer off to ensure that we go into the new season with the cleanest surface possible. That will be it for the first day.

"On Saturday the seed will go on. We'll apply the seed, which will be thirty bags of ICL Pro Select seed. That gets bedded in with a Dimple Seeder.

"The process after that is the top dressing of 60-tonne MM40 sand from Mansfield Sand. And then on Sunday, we verti-drain into that and then we go on with the drag mat. Dragging in all the sand and seeds, they will then go down into the holes. Leaving the surface clean.

"After that on Monday, we’ll go on with our fertiliser plan. Once the fertiliser is on it’s a case of just watering it.

"The first game back is the 23rd of July which is a rugby game and then our football one is the week after against Bradford, so we’ve got a good six weeks for it to get ready ahead of the first game."

Compare that with KOs investment in Stan's pitchfork and rusty mower, B & Q basic seed and bulk sand off the beach

Well that lad that went on to Arsenal seemed to get amazing results so you’re definitely right. It’s an art and a science.

Wish the same could be said of my house - new build and have been told I'd need to excavate the lot down to about 10 feet in and then fill with soil if I want to achieve any sort of lawn 😶

That seems like pretty poor advice. You’ll get a good lawn in 6’-12’ of soil. Whoever’s suggested excavating 10ft needs giving a wide berth !!
