Play Off chances

Just been looking at the fixtures lists of the various sides up there.. Doncaster and Ipswich seem to have much easier remaining fixtures than other teams in and around the Play Offs.

The message is, we don't have scope for complacency if we want to be in there as we may need to overtake the likes of Lincoln if Ipswich and Donny accelerate their points output.

The thing I'm interested in about Saturday is seeing if our new system works against the "lesser teams", Oxford and Peterborough are both decent sides and all season we've managed to get points off the decent sides anyway.

Where we've struggled all season to record wins against the bottom half teams/relegation sides, if we have now turned that around it will be an extremely exciting end to the season.

Out of our 12 games left, SIX of them are against bottom half sides (FOUR of them being in a relegation dog fight):
Plymouth (H) - 16th
Swindon (A) - 19th
Rochdale (A) - 24th
Shrewsbury (H) - 17th
Northampton (A) - 20th
Bristol Rovers (H) - 21st

TWO against mid/upper mid-table:
Accrington (H) - 12th
Gillingham (H) - 9th

FOUR against play-off rivals:
Sunderland (H/A) - 3rd
Lincoln (A) - 4th
Doncaster (H) - 5th

We need to acquire 18 points to reach the magic number which secures you a play-off spot in every season (it will be lower this year I think), I think we could possibly get that and more if this run is going to continue!

If (massive IF) each team carries on getting the same ppg as the last 8 games the table would finish:

Sunderland 91
Hull 88

Pool 80
Posh 80
Ipswich 72
Lincoln 70

Donny 70
Gillingham 70
Charlton 69/70
Pompey 65
Oxford 64
Accy 63

This would be great as we are currently in much better form (2 ppg) than Posh (1.38), Ipswich (1.63), or Lincoln (0.75).

Ipswich have the voodoo on us though. Be good to see them miss out to Donny, Gillingham or Charlton!

Just a bit o' fun, folks....! But quite interesting nonetheless. Suggests a clear top 2, a clear next 2 (which includes us), and then 5 teams fighting for the other two play off places.

BHOK, I don't really think that there are any 'easy' games for any other team.
This League has thrown up a lot of surprises this season, and it will continue to happen.
We just have to rely on Critch and give the support he deserves.

In Critch we trust, Dave.

No need for nerves from us lot, we are nailed on for Championship football next season 😜

I prefer an Oxford win tonight too. We need to beat Plymouth which would help to cement our position in the playoff zone.

At this time in 2010 I remember me and mates being in The Saddle pre-match. We were discussing our chances of making the play-offs and one of the group said, if we keep winning our games we will be in the play-offs. I think the only game we lost after that was away to Newcastle.

All set for a third time lucky thrashing of Ipswich at Wembley.

It`s what we can do that matters far more than all this wild speculation about the results of others which in reality tells us virtually nothing.

It`s surprising how many so called mature but overexcited males can suddenly revert to childhood at times like this.
