Pompey and Oxford

If I were a betting man, I'd say these are the two to beat.
Be interesting to see what Barnsley are like next week as they could be contenders but it does feel the rest your Peterboroughs, Boltons and Derbys are very much like us this season and struggling for any form.
I'd say those 7 sides (along with us) will be there at the end and it's just now a case of who can put a run of form together.

I still think Bolton will come good - could see Bolton + Pompey top two - both got a 20 goal a season striker to hopefully stay fit. Have a bit of a soft spot for Pompey now they have John Mousinho as they're coach, want him to do well, but i'll take 6 points please. 😅

It Critchley gets it right and learns his team like he did in 20/21, nobody will be better than us in this division. Nobody can match our strength in depth.
lol I'm not sure about that. I think you could challenge yes, but I don't think many outside of AVFTT think you're unparalleled in this division.

Just my opinion of course but we could name 2 starting 11’s who would both push playoffs.

I can't get carried away by the wins against Wigan and Reading, Wigan were a defensive shambles and Reading looked like a development team, and Wycombe and Lincoln are still fresh in the memory!
Can't see us troubling the top 2, hopefully get into playoffs, Oxford, Portsmouth and Bolton fighting it out for top 2.

Oxford have signed some good players and don't appear to be that bothered about losing money as a club

They obviously don't realise it's a money saving competition as some of the wages they pay blow us out of the water

Can you give us some figures cos I'd be surprised if their spending much different to ours tbh. SS putting 5m in this year and we've players who were in the Championship last season. I think SS is losing money, what's this about saving?

Brannigan for a starter is on something like 15k a week, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rodrigues is on a chunk of change after the demand for him in the transfer window. Thorniley? We expected him to move to the Championship, so I would assume he had some sort of pay rise.

Bearing in mind Oxford have been in league one for a long time now…where is this money coming from? Or more importantly, is it sustainable? If they don't get promoted in the next couple of years they could be in trouble. We’ve seen it time and time again!

Whats your view on young Goodram?

Branagan £14,000 a week, plus his petrol expenses, Oxford to Blackpool, Blackpool to Oxford.

Fans on other L1 forums have been saying that about us since Sadlers statement. 18m in 4 years plus 5m this season. Joseph Rhodes Dembele etc all gonna be on decent wages and we've peoole like Grimmy Marv who got improved championship deals.

It's hard to find data, but here's the best I can find on salaries without paying....

Obviously been changes not captured in both squads, but it shows an indication of where comparatively both clubs are at. Given Blackpool were in the Championship, you'd probably expect their squad to be paid slightly better and these numbers generally reflect that. No idea how Yates > Joseph looks, but it's interesting see Joseph was on £6k with us last season, so you might think he's paid a bit better now?

Real prospect mate. There's obviously a lot of buzz about him in the press, but he still needs to have his breakout season for me. So much potential - comes on with that 'young kid energy', with a lot of drive and a smile on his face. Clearly talented and if he does live up to the hype this season, will most likely end up at Bristol City or something like so many of our players... 😅

I think every club is in a similar place here - when to place the bets on what season you should push. Hopefully we've picked the right time, given the general state of League One, but you have to see the bigger picture here too. We've wealthy owners who wants us top half of the Championship whilst playing in our own (finally) stadium for 2026. No point in the latter being available if we're in League 2. So performance on the pitch needs to meet the positive moves we're making off the pitch, hopefully they can align nicely... 🤞

An interesting list that Neyo. We blew half a million a year on two players who barely kicked a ball.

£1.1m on Poveda and Williams. If the info correct and we paid for the whole season for both. We may have only paid part of those amounts I guess. Bloody hope so!

Does that list have all your new players @neyo ? Presumably not. Ours is pretty out of date with half those players gone.

Nah same, we signed 11 in the summer and I see... 4

Yeah in terms of loans, I dunno if the values are what the club are paying or just the value the player would make, weekly.

Wish this data was more available!

I played cricket with is dad so good to hear that he looks like the real deal

Did you see our games against Wigan and Reading?
Funnily enough I think we got away with it against Wigan, we caught Reading on a bad day and Burton wasn't great.
Are we firing on all cylinders and can we realistically challenge for those top two - all feels a bit experimental at the moment and it's how quickly he can turn that in to wins.

Pompey are bound to finally get out of this division at some point and I suspect this could be there year.

Oxford will screw it up as always.
