Pool 4 Orient 2

Culmination of my first season supporting Blackpool. Was hooked after the opening say win vs Hull, and the whole season was an an absolute madness. To end it winning a play off final was the cherry on the cake. Those 90mins mirrored the ups and down of the 46 game season.
 
I celebrated Simmo's goal like I've never celebrated a goal before or since. By the time Brett finished it off I was emotionally drained.
 
Brothers wedding that day and never forgiven him...! My mum threatened to write me out of her will if i didn't attend and as his Best Man i suppose i had to go.
 
Grateful that I mentioned to my missus that it might be an idea to move our wedding back a weekend "just in case".......what a fortnight that was!
 
Spent the whole weekend in Cardiff for this. Absolutely mental. Cannot believe it was so long ago. Was a young man back then.
 
Went with my kids & was sat right in the corner at pitch level, got a good view of Barnes & his slip just after we'd sat down. Still remember Brett's somersault & I only think he just made it back onto his feet 🤣
 
They got off the bus in training gear. McMahon had us immaculate in suits and tangerine ties. They ran out of gas at 65 minutes. We got stronger.
 
Bloody hell that stirred some memories. The lowest of lows followed by the highest of highs almost on repeat that year. And finished with the exact sort of game that summed up what went before. When it went against us you feared the worst and when it went for us it was a sight to behold. Never a dull moment with Steve McMahon around.

Mad to think there's generations of fans now who don't know anything about the heartbreak of Danny Shittu's loan expiring before the final.

A one nil away win at Mansfield not long after Barnet turned the season around - well saved Macca’s job.
A late winner at home to York towards the end of January was the jump start for the season play off victory. I’ll have to check but from that York game I think we won 12 & drew one of the remaining home games !

Should have said there was something wrong with the banns😂so it was delayed🥳
Mind you I was best man at my brothers wedding when we played our second Anglo Italian Cup Final…good job we lost that one😂

That third and fourth goal still gives me goosebumps when I see them again.
Simmo is a legend as far as I’m concerned…as is Brett.

I did start my speech by announcing the full time score which went down well with my Norwich City supporting cousins who knew what I’d given up to attend. Plus my brother is a Liverpool season ticket holder so I think it was gods will when we stuffed them in our season in the premier league…!
 
Think that team should have gone up automatically with the quality of those players.

I know Simmo alluded to not much focus on defending in training during a podcast a couple of years ago which won't have helped.

That win away at Mansfield was the last game my now wife ever went too. She was at Barnet of course!

Went to both .Train to Barnet took 23 hrs from getting out of bed to getting home due to issues with trains. Compensation in vouchers meant the 5 of us from Lancaster went to Brighton went for £5 lost but a great trip .🍺🍺😀😀🍊🍊
