Pool V Leeds

remember this game well, we were so much better than them and created numerous chances and could have won by four or five - there were comments after (perhaps tongue in cheek) that it was just like watching Brazil there's no doubt that we were a joy to watch, it was around the time that Middlesborough fans were eulogising about us after we pasted them at BR 🙂

Once again highlighted GTF's ability. Great vision and creativity. All the little passes inside, the flicks, stepovers etc. very good player.

Also highlighted how dirty leeds are 😳

We outplayed them for the majority of game and a class above them
We hammered Ipswich 6-0 a few days later. It looked all set for a return to Premiership until KO put the brakes on transfer fees. All downhill a few weeks later.

Those 3 games against Leeds Ipswich Middlesbrough are the best three consecutive games I’ve watched at Bloomfield road.
From the south it looked like an
artist using a palette knife to create a work of art.
Blessed to have witnessed it.
But we all know why it went pear shaped.

On the pear-shape front, we played Huddersfield next at home and I think Keith Southern had given them inside info on how to play us. We were defensively poor in that match and didn't recover.

Absolute joy to watch, the football was sublime, the passing and movement off the ball belonged in the Premier League. As Warnock said after "the team finishing one place below Blackpool would go up automatically".
Ollie was not backed for the striker he wanted to complete the jigsaw despite the millions he had secured for the club and the rest was history.
Dave Pick, we battered them, those highlights were from a Leeds slant and even their commentator said their goal was against the run of play.
As said above, those 3 matches against Boro, Leeds and Ipswich were out of this world, by far the best I've seen in over 40 years watching the Mighty..

I remember at the time I used to speak to Thommo quite a lot in the De Vere and when I used to see him around and he used to say to me regularly 'This thing is built on a bed of sand and is going to come crashing down" referring to the way it was being run by the odious ones, as you say, the rest is history but Thommo called it right though.

A cracking game. Older supporters might remember when we thrashed them 4 0 ( Bremner , Charlton , Hunter et al ) in Sept 1964.
One of the best ever home performances and we did the double over them the following season at Easter which ruled them out
of the Championship race. Happy days.

I was there at both games. The 1-0 win more or less ensured our survival.
Was at my Sisters wedding when they beat us 2-0 in 1967.

It’s what we need when we’re all back - good passing football with lots of opportunities created. Not sure I’ll be bothered about the results for a while.
