PORT VALE AWAY 1987

Who scored the 5th or 6th where they broke from the halfway line with just the keeper to beat? McGinley scored 1 and Stewart bagged 4 I think, pretty certain it was one of those who scored it.

How many did Paul Stewart score that game?
If its the one I'm thinking of I think it was 4
Edit to add, just seen fcblackpools post

Yep I was there - Paul Stewart’s last match - he was doing loads of sprints (Asan injury doubt) up the side of the pitch and declared himself fit

It was a result and performance that defied all logic

I remember saying to my brother on the chilly open end ‘if we can get too h t without conceding we might Nick a point’ - we then scored with our first and second attacks of the half and were show boating 2nd half, scoring at will - we even cheered their goal at our end -most of the 90 mins was at the far end of the ground !

This was ahappy day in a dark era and it was sad to seeStewey leave

Another there too.
Pretty sure we were not housed behind the goal but in the main stand along the side, not the one they redeveloped which remained unused as I think they ran out of money.

Had this been a Saturday fixture I would have gone as it nearer to me than Bloomfield Road , 27 miles apparently, but a Friday night in Burslem and a horrible drive and horrible place in December is no longer for me so it will be TTV for me,a cheaper option as well at £10.

i was there
Back-to-back 6-1 wins as well as I recall - we beat Crewe by the same score
Wasn't it Paul Stewarts last game before we sold him to Man City ?
Wasn't Crewe 84/85 Tam?, we beat Bristol Rovers 6-1 that season.
I was there sat down the main stand, I can also remember Ginge & the new boy Craig Madden scoring. Alex Williams the ex City keeper was their goalie.

Anybody attend this game, 250/1 for tonight to repeat 6 1 victory
What are the odds 6-1 to Vale

Only joking

Being positive:
I'm sure we'll see a much improved performance By Pool this evening. If we can win this game that will average 1.5 points between the Burton and Port Vale matches which is not bad. One point away and win our home matches will see us back up the table.

Not so positive:
We are totally inconsistent. Critchley needs to earn his corn and repay the faith that Siman Sadler has in him.

Just checked and you are right
Bristol Rovers not Crewe

I was there with Dad what an amazing result I can remember being in the car driving out of Burslem feeling on top of the world but I can't remember anything of the game just being stunned by it, it was simply unbelievable 🙂

I was driving back from a London break with my then girlfriend, now wife, and I pretended to be surprised discovering that Blackpool were playing at Port Vale and we would be driving close to the ground at "just the right time". She fell for it and what a wonderful memory.....Paul Stewart was incredible.
